Default PC Blu ray V's Dedicated players..

Anyone got the low down on this ?

I was considering getting a Blu ray player for my HDTV (which just happens to sit next to my PC, in my wee flat)....then i thought...I could do with a new PC actually why not get one with a Blu ray player and kill two birds with one stone so to speak..

So i'm wondering how the two comapre, do you need an HDMI cable for the PC to connect to the TV ? can you still get HD master audio ?

There is no difference in the quality of video in my opinion. It is sometimes a little tricky to get everything working, but the end result is worthwhile. You do not need to use hdmi if your tv has either a DVI input that supports HDCP or a VGA input that supports resolutions up to 1920 x 1080 (1080p). As far as getting HD audio, it is possible and there are several ways. The first is to use the 5.1 or 7.1 analog outputs from your audio card. The second is to get one of the video cards that support HD audio throu LPCM such as the ATI HD-4870. This will also only work if your Audio receiver supports those inputs and formats.

I have my setup as follows;

Lite-On blu-ray player
2x 8800GT in SLI powering a 20" samsung monitor and a 50" Panny plasma
movies play great, and I can even surf the net at the same time if needed

Creative X-Fi Xtrememusik going analog to Logitech Z-5500...gives me LPCM audio

the player was $100 eight months ago so I am sure its even cheaper now...just make sure you have at least a dual core CPU
