Default Planet of the apes (60's 70's) which is the best one?

I was watching the marathon they have on the the fox movie channel (its on right now) and was thinking of buying the blu-ray. which one do you guys think is the best? i never seen these before but i immediately got hooked when i was watching the first one, i also noticed its the best looking one.

I was only going to get part 1 only but maby i should get the box set?

I suppose the first one is the best...but I really love Beneath the Planet of the Apes.

+1

The first Planet of the Apes film is the best one. And I agree, RustyK94, that Soylent Green is a better sci-fi film with Charlton Heston. But after all this time, I still haven't seen The Omega Man yet. I'll have to check it out when I get around to it.

I grew up with these.
Planet is the best (obviously). Then there's Beneath, Escape, Conquest and Battle. If you can stomach those I recommend the short lived TV series. You can get it cheap on ebay.

The first one...the rest are just garbage (IMHO) The first one is considered a classic.

Well, the first one is a masterpiece obviously. The second one is flawed but interesting (in the behind the scenes doc, it's revealed that the reason the studio allowed for such a bleak ending was because of the fallout between Darryl and Richard Zanuck, the father/son duo that ran the studio). The third is really funny and suspenseful and focuses primarily on Zira and Cornelius. The fourth is really powerful in that you see the origins of the Ape world happen. And the fifth one kinda works and ties things up neatly enough while remaining ambiguous.

All five work together to make a really mindbending Mobius strip of time travel. Not many franchises start in the future, go into the past and end up creating an alternate version. And STAR WARS doesn't count since time travel doesn't exist there.
