Default Why do people pre-order?

I've seen tons of threads and messages on here saying that someone has such-and-such movie on pre-order. Why? When you can go to almost any store selling BD and pay to have it in your hot little hand that second...and you're not really paying more than these pre-order websites.

b/c a lot of people are getting movies like The Dark Knight, Wanted, and a couple of months ago Transformers before they are released in the store.

Because sometimes you can get Pre-Order incentives that are exclusive to only pre-orders.

I usually preorder my movies because I'm not going to watch it most likely before the weekend (at the earliest) so I'd rather get the best price and have it by Wednesday at the latest (Amazon Prime). However, in the rare event where there is a good in-store deal I will go to the store and buy it. I cancelled my Wanted preorder yesterday because it is over $6 cheaper at Sears.

Most online stores hand out promotion like discount or gifts with Pre-Order. So, that's why some people loves pre-ordering.. not me,, I think I love to wait for it to get old and bargain lol

I've never pre-ordered. I don't like to wait for something that I know I can get by just going up to Wal-Mart or Best Buy the day of its release. I see people getting pre-orders in early, but if just once I didn't get a pre-order in by the release date, I would never want to do it again, so I'll stick with just buying it in town the date of release. No many people think to go to Wal-Mart at midnight to pick up a new release, so you're pretty much guaranteed a copy there.

I only preorder a very good deal. Amazon has pretty much killed buyer protection so I just wait, unless it's an offer I can't refuse...

I actually just did my first pre-order...I got Shawshank Redemption on Amazon for 19.99. All the stores in my area were selling it for 30.

Some of us live in places where Best Buy and Circuit city are a half an hour drive. The prices at Walmart and Kmart are much higher than Amazon. Also, I use the preorders as reminders of release dates. To each his own, I guess.

Because it's cheaper for me to pre order...when you take into account gas and hassle of fighting the stores. So I pre order from Amazon and sometimes they come right to the house even before the release date....oh and anyting over 25.00 bucks is free shipping anyway...

why in the hell would anyone want to get up at midnight to get a film is beyond me.

I only pre-order from Warner because they usually ship the title prior to release date. Usually get the movie a couple days prior to release.

Also, I got TDK for $18 for pre-order when Warner first posted(9/30) on their website. So, it was hard to pass up a deal/low price as well.

No shipment yet.

I never preorder movies, only games. Most collector's editions can only be had on day one as a preorder.

the whole idea of preordering anything arose long long ago when it was anticipated that items would run out, shortages due to high demand, long lines, etc and it could take sometimes weeks after the release date to get it. nowadays they usually have way more stock than necessary, books, movies. preordering allowed you to guarantee urself a copy on release day, it also gave distributors an idea of demand for the item. nowadays it seems more like a marketing ploy. of course an artificial shortage created to help hype and bring attention to a product, also another marketing ploy.

Well...there ya go.

I pre-order, because it keeps me out of the store. I rarely leave BestBuy with only what I planned on buying. Well...not too often, but there are just a couple of times when I went to buy a movie or two and I left with a few boxed sets and cd's and a game and what not.

It honestly doesn't happen THAT often, but I try to avoid that if I can.

Case in point...when the Bonds were released, I had no idea BestBuy was going to have them steelbooked and I left with all of them instead of just Die Another Day and Dr. No.

I actually first put a Blu-ray on my amazon wish list, especially if the price seems initially too high. Then, I wait and watch my wish list for any price drops on the titles I intend to buy. When the price does drop to one I feel is acceptable, I then preorder it. That happened with THE UNIVERSE most recently. It went down from $49.99 to $42.99 and eventually to $39.99.

In addition, I always order with free shipping, so I sometimes have to wait to combine to Blu-ray titles in order to exceed the $25 requirement for free shipping from amazon.com.

Not me lately. After I found I can get it at a good price and GUARANTEED on release day so to speak from B&M stores, no reason to.

BTW, TDK was an exception because of when I would receive it and GUARANTEED!
