Unhappy Where's The Day the Earth Stood Still Blu-ray

Hi all, first post here. I ordered the above mentioned film from Play.com, it was supposd to be released on the 1st Dec, but it is still in ordering stage, there are no reviews anywhere, I even checked Amazon.co.uk, but they only have R1 copies from traders. What the bloody 'ell's goin' on. This is my favourite sci-fi film ever, I'm champing at the bit to get it, but it's seeming very elusive.

TDTESS looks great on this blu-ray!
I must say, however that I was UNIMPRESSED with the trailer for the new version included on this disc. Yes, it came with "movie cash" to see this new one, but the choice of Keanu I-can't-act-my-way-out-of-a-paper-bag Reeves was a big mistake IMHO.

The trailer is scaring me also, it's looking to much like an Independence Day type of movie rather then the original TDTESS. I don't think I will see it in theaters.

Never saw the original. I noticed it's on Netflix/360 for viewing. I'll give it a whirl.

The original is a traditional Sci-Fi Thriller of the era and an excellent movie. It focused on the political turmoil of the time. The new film seems to reposition the focus to the environmental impact of humans on the earth. There is a seven minute preview for the new movie on the Blu-ray release of the classic. It appears that the only thing unchanged from the first movie to this remake is the name. Judging from what I saw the temperment of the alien is different(opposite) and the tone of the film is in stark contrast to the original. It may be an interesting concept, but I don't think it bears much resemblance to its namesake.

I happen to watch the DVD last night. Actually, there is a loose connection. Klaatu wanted to keep atomic power out of space because humans were a threat to other humanity in the solar system. He came to tell them to NOT do such as thing, or else.... The else being the entire world would go up in smoke.

So, there is some legitimacy to the new one having a galaxy sized chip on its shoulder. I want to see it. Hopefully Bill and Ted have an adventure and learn to "be excellent to one another.".

I'm dying to see the improved gort. In the original he supposedly could destroy the earth on his own.

I was referring to the character being different. In the original he is very passive and unassuming. He is perplexed by the human races affinity for violence. In the new one, Klaatu uses violence against the humans. This is completely contrary to the characters nature in the original.

Same here about it being in my Blockbuster queue (gotta love Blockbuster.com ).

I'm not too sure about the remake. I'm not impressed by the trailer. The original TDTESS was a true classic. It didn't need big action sequences or gaudy special effects (although the effects they did have were great, even for today). The remake is making me uneasy. I have a bad feeling that the BR release of the original film is the only good thing the remake will be responsible for. (Honestly, would Fox have released this now if the remake wasn't coming out?)

I think that Hollywood should just quite making movies for a while and come up with some original ideas for movies. All they have to do is take classics such as TDTESS and screw them up with special effects. Could you imagine if they remade Casablanca what a tragedy that would be. I mean at least try and stick to the original movie. Keanu as Klaatu is a joke. I will not see it in theatres or rent when it comes out.
