1. Contrast ratios really mean nothing

2. Sharp makes great TVs but they are usually overpriced vs an equivalent sony or samsung

And finally; I'd like to see it in person, because specs are hardly an indication of PQ... But sharp is rarely one to disappoint.

it was super thin but that 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio means nothing and no offense to sharp but i think sony and samsung both do a better job at making LCD tv's

Panels, not tv's, and I think they've been doing that for a while already, it's similar with plasma panels. There is more to the television than just the panel.

When watching the commercial of the new aquos on my aquos, the picture quality of the aquos on my aquos looked like my aquos........

Crazy eh?

Honestly though, Yeah, I saw the commercial, and that t.v. looks T H I N.... but I'm at the point where I don't see why it matters if you hang a t.v. on your wall that sticks out 4 inches, or if you hang a T.V. on the wall that is only 3/4" deep

Exactly, Thats why i don't go crazy when i hear new models of TV's come out because most of the time it just the same TV they released last year with more bells and whistles to convince you that its better then the TV you got home.....

Then when you get it home it looks the same as your last TV just shinier......

I guess they got to do something to draw consumers in and keep there prices high......

yea I saw the commercial. The one selling point was 120hz and Sony has already came out with 240hz. It was thin but so is the Samsung 860 and Sony z series. Contrast means nothing. I would still choose a Samsung and Sony over it and I am assuming they will almost be the same price.

Lots of LCD panels with LED backlighting have come and gone (giving lcd the probable 1,000,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio. The plasma panels still give the best picture quality. Altho "thin is in"... sony and pioneer have "thin" stuff too. Don't let "thin" impress you.

The actual contrast ratio is small. Not to mention the price is $12,000 +

I have the Samsung 860 which is 1.9" thick. It has horrible backlight bleed since it is so thin. I'm exchanging mine for the Panny 800u plasma. Just waiting for it to get delivered since it was on backorder.

I like the thin design. I don't care so much about the depth, but I like watching the picture, not the frame of the TV. Toshiba and Mitsubishi had it right in 2007. In my opinion, Samsung went backwards in 2008 with Touch of Color. A lot of people like that, I guess, but I prefer a super thin bezel like on my 46" Toshiba. I did see that some of the new high end Sonys have that feature as well. I think that aspect of the new Aquos line is pretty nice!

Hopefully in 5 years or so when I'm ready to upgrade, there will be some awesome Plasmas with super thin bezels.
