Default PlayStation 3 Remote Recommendation

I just started buying Blu-Ray Movies and I think it's time for me to use my PS3 for BD Movies as well, but I have used it for watching DVDs and using the Sixaxis Controller is frustrating for controlling movies.
I am thinking about purchasing the PS3 Blu-Ray Remote, but I heard some stories that it isn't that great. Are there any other choices? I'm not in the market for Universal Remotes, because they are too expensive and I don't really mind having multiple remotes. Please help me. Thanks!

I bought the Blu-Ray remote the same day I bought my PS3. I don't know what you've read, but this controller is the best. As far as other options, none that I've heard of.

Is it worth buying the remote control? I found it as low as 15 bucks, but I'm not sure whether it's worth 15 dollars for easier usage. Thanks for the quick response.

My reason for buying the remote was because I was going to use my PS3 for watching Blu-Ray movies 99% of the time, so it was no question for me. If you are going to be watching a lot of movies on it, I would definitely recommend it. It would not be fun to control the movie using the PS3 controller.

Currently, I only have one blu-ray movie that's on order, but nothing else. I was also planning on watching my standard definition DVDs as well until I get enough Blu-Rays. Do you think it will be worth it under these conditions?

I use my PS3 more for movie viewing than for playing games, and I can tell you right now, the remote control is definitely worth the $15 - it makes movies easier to navigate, as opposed to hitting the "Select" button and having to move through all the options. Having owned a PS2, even, I can't hardly remember what any of the buttons on the controller itself represent which option.

I have the remote, and I end up using the controller more often. The only thing I use the controller for is the start button to pause/play, and R2 to fast forward on a regular basis. Once in a while I use the square button to access the special features menu. Since the remote was free with two movies I would have bought anyway, I can't complain too much.

I find the remote to be a much better interface device than the game controller for movie purposes. For yourself, think about the opportunity cost - what's a better use of your $15, buying a blu-ray or having greater convenience for all of your home movie viewing?

Get the official Sony remote. I've been using it for almost a year now and it's great.

I have the officail PS3 Bluray remote as well. And I couldn't be happier. It just makes easy navigation when playing BD's/DVD's or CD's. If you can get one for $15, I'd get it in a hurry. Well worth the price.

I actually find that the PS3 controllers very very very nice and easy to control while watching Blu-rays. In-fact, I never have to have the light on to look at where the buttons are, which makes this a plus over the remote.

When I was buying the PS3, I thought for sure that I'd have to buy a Blu-ray remote. Well, I certainly was incorrect!

Thank god it was nothing like using the PS2 controller to watch a movie on the PS2 system. What a nightmare.

Had the official remote from the same day I got my PS3 and I would highly recommend getting it. Anybody that says anything negative about it is talking rubbish . Although it is quite large and being bluetooth probably uses the batteries quicker, but unless you have teeny-tiny hands or can't afford rechargeable batteries there's no reason not to buy it at all.

The only drawback I have with the PS3 remote is the fact it will turn on the PS3 no matter what button you hit. This means that sometimes when I have it in a drawer it might hit something and turn the PS3 on. (not such a big issue now with the powersave functions on the PS3, but it used to suck waking up and seeing the PS3 on when you weren't using it.)

I have owned the remote since I purchased my PS3 in March of 2007. Honestly, at first I didn't use it that often because I didn't watch many BD's at the time & I used my PS3 controller to watch DVD's. But only because I had been trained that way by the PS2! But after I started buying BD's on a regular basis I found the remote to be invaluable. It works well the PS3 & actually utilizes all the features. If you have located a remote that is in good condition for $15, than I would defenitely pick it up! Good Luck!

Only real charge to the recommendations about, if you have a universal remote, you may want to look at getting a third party solution instead, something so you can continue to use your universal remote as a universal remote.
