Default Annoying references in reviews!!!

Many times in reviews I will read the reviewer write these exact words, "It offers a significant upgrade to the SDVD and VHS releases." Yes, you read it correctly, a VHS release. Not to sound arrogant but even a major ****up of a bluray transfer is going to look better than a tape. I just don't want to hear about how the bluray looks better than the dvd because that's the whole raison d'etre of this new format. If is looks like shit, call them on it. Don;t compare to the dvds, unless it looks the exact same or shittier.

I might agree that any reference to VHS is useless, but comparing a BD disc to a DVD and saying it's a major upgrade is very useful information. There have been several BD releases who's transfer was well below par and I, for one, want to know if any BD release measures up. Good or bad review, I want to know what I'm buying and welcome the comparison.

I think if a blu is about the same as a DVD PQ it should get a zero out of 5.

It should be slated and not even given to people for free. 1 million copies should be burnt in front of greenpeace so they create a stink about it. If a blu ray is not better than the DVD it should be considered industrial waste and the government should stop it.

I believe the company responsible for a duff blu should give all those cases away to the their competitors and the sleeves should be dumped into the garden of the idiot that did that transfer.

Amen.

No, actually what it is annoying me the most right now is this site's review of box sets. For instance the Chronicles of Narnia Bundle. Why did this need a separate review? It's The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe together with Prince Caspian. Why does it need to have the entire text of both of those reviews cut and pasted together? It would just make more sense to just put summaries of the respective scores and links over to the full reviews.

Another example is the Planet of the Apes Collection where it's mostly just a cut and paste of the individual movie reviews (there was at least some content unique to the set). Again, a better system would of been to give the set itself an overall score, summarize the individual movie results and talk about what is unique to the boxed set.

Is this site just trying to to pad the number of reviews it appears to be doing or what?

Can you tell us what review(s) you're referring to?

In a couple of my reviews of old movies I mentioned my experience watching it on VHS and therefore when discussing the experience of the BD, it justified a comparison.

It's really easy to take a quote (or not a quote--who knows whether what you have quoted is coming directly from a review) completely out of context and start whining about it.

Well the Narnia bundle had a new opening paragraph and 18 unique screenshots.

We try and have reviews for every release so that if someone clicks on any title they can find a review without having to go in search of one.
