Default High Pressure Sales

First of all, please don’t rip regarding the brand, quality, price, or anything. This Dynex LCD TV (Best Buy) was purchased because of the price--$299.99. Size 26” because it fits within my wife’s cabinet and it is for the bedroom, where it is watched in total darkness and for about an hour each night while going to sleep.

I purchased at Best Buy AND then the high pressure came out to meet me. The salesman almost walked me over to the register and while mentally pulling my card out to purchase the Geek Calibration at a cost of $250.00. I could not get away from him. I use to be a manager in auto sales. So, I know high pressure.

One of his sales pitch was: I will save about $100.00 a year in electricity by having the calibration.

Quality of picture, I understand but not being an electrical engineer, how will a calibration save me $100 a year in electrical cost????

He's pitching a sale of something that will mostly appeal to enthusiasts by touting $100 a year savings? I doubt most people who understand and purchase a calibration would really give a $#!# about $100 per year saved on electricity costs.

A properly calibrated plasma will save you "some" $$ on electricity costs, but I highly doubt even that would total $100/year. He actually tried to sell you a calibration on a 26" Dynex? At a cost $50 less than the actual set? That guy had a pair, didn't he?

i love best buy, but their geek squad seems like the biggest rip off ever. my friend hired them to install her 26" samsung lcd (she knows nothing about technology so i at least get where she's coming from) and all they did was take it out of the box and plug in the coax cable from the wall to the back of it. didn't even turn it on. how much? $250. absolutely ridiculous
