Default HD Pros--need your thoughts

Just purchased an LCD 26” 720p TV to replace an old TV in the bedroom.

I am using Verizon Fios for my cable.

I have been using the standard STB for the old TV. We don’t watch any HD channels while in bed.

For my situation, would there be any difference in PQ using the regular STB vs ordering Verizon’s HD STB which costs extra?

26" is pretty small to get a huge benefit from High Definition. I have FIOS and there is a big difference between HD and SD obviously. Tough call but if you can swing the extra expense I would go HD. You can always downgrade at a later time.

You have a 720p tv. Why not use it to its fullest?

I used to have a 26" lcd in the bedroom and yeah there is a very noticeable difference between standard def and high def even at that size. Personally, I cringe at the thought of looking at any standard def material nowadays. Fortunately dvd upconversion is decent, so I don't have to completely replace my movie collection with blu-rays...just select movies. Of course all of my new purchases are blu. Something else to keep in mind is a lot of HD tv's don't do standard def well anyway so SD material might look worse than it would on a standard def tv.

i agree with the last post. i can't go back to sd either.....but he is exactly right...some hdtvs don't do sd very well. my question is do you have hd cable in another room??? i assume yes....so why not take your tv (pretty managable to move being that size) and hook it up to your hd cable. see what you think.....than make the decision..if it is a big difference for you than upgrade..if you can't tell much...than why mess with it.....your just going to fall asleep to the tv anyways....hd or sd.
