Who all remembers the biggest waste of technology from the last decade? That's right, Circuit City's own DIVX.
I actually get a good laugh out of reading some of the anti-DIVX sites that are still kept posted for historical purposes. One of them is here: http://www.geocities.com/Hollywood/Screen/6139/ It's a sarcastic website where the webmaster blasts Divx by pretending to be a fanboy. Wicked funny I tell ya. I also checked out the more serious material at: http://www.fightdivx.com/divx3.htm Worth a read I think. It all gets me thinking about the role of the obsessive fanboy in pop culture. Striclty speaking, most ppl don't care for them or pay them much heed, and I know I don't plan on being one. Maybe a little biased, but definitely not fanboyish. But I do wonder of they are a neccessary thing. Case in point, just about everything good in pop-culture has a few fanboys, but I never knew a Divx fanboy. Seems proof like none-other of how much it sucked. |
