Angry Surround Sound 7.1 not working with Blu-Ray player

I have a Samnsung 52" 1080 LCD, a Samsung BD-P-1500 Blu-Ray Player, and a Onkyo TX-SR606 7.1 Surround sound receiver. Then I have an HDMI input from the cable box to the receiver, and an HDMI input from the Blu-Ray player to the receiver, and an HDMI output from the receiver to the TV. I get 7.1 surround sound on cable, but never on the Blu-Ray player. The Blu-Ray movies say 5.1 Dolby Digital. I used to have a 5.1 receiver, and all 7 speakers worked, but not on 7.1. Any suggestions on how I can get this working?

what movies have you tried? I'd also look at the "Audio Options" you have selected on your PS3 menu.

If you're using lossy, you can use the different surround options to matrix the sound to the other two speakers. If you're using lossless, you can't matrix it out with the 606.

To further your explanation I would throw in that he's listening to 5.1 PCM and his receiver inst capable of matrix'ing PCM.

Does anyone know if my Denon 2307ci can do 7.1 True HD? I have my blu ray sony 300 set to PCM and the Denon to auto. I only get 5.1 on a 7.1 bd? It says multi channel and shows 5.1 speakers. Is my Denon only capable of 5.1 multi channel?
