Default Can i still buy new PS3 that plays PS2?

I know the newer versions do not but do any of you know where and what i need to look for to get a Ps3 that does? Thanks. This is for a friend, i have one that was bought year ago.

You're mistaken.

PS2 backwards-compatible PS3's include the 20GB and 60GB models and more recently (and still available from some stores) the 80GB Metal Gear Solid 4 pack.

All PS3's play PlayStation/PSone games.

You can't find any new 60GBs for a cheap price ($1500 on Amazon) and you can't find any new 60GBs on eBay too. I found some 20GBs on Amazon for $575 w/o shipping. Kind of pricey. But you can also buy some Gamestop Refurbished models as well.
