Default Protection

Before I start, I know what ya'll are gonna start with. No need for a protection plan, if tv doesn't break in first year, it will be ok. So if you got this kind of response, dont even waste your time typing. Here is the thing though. My wife is getting me a new tv for christmas and she insists that if I get it I have to get a protection plan with it, she's paying so I dont have much to say. My question is, if any of you have actually bought a plan before, what kind of experiences have you had with the service. What stores have offered useful service and which ones haven't. I have read that target is bad, there out of the equation already, but any more feedback would be greatly appreciated.

i have the service plans on my tv's from best buy, I have not had to use them thankfully. however customers that i have dealt with there have generally said good things when they have had a faulty tv and needed to cash in on their warranty

From the sounds of it most people like to get an extended warranty directly from the factory.

Its all in how you extended warranty is set up.
For instance, my local best buys extended warranty is through a local service company here. So if your tv breaks then Best Buy gets you in contact with that local shop and you have them come and fix your tv.

Lol i worked at the other repair shop here in town. My buddy ordered his tv from sony and got their warranty directly. Sony had contract through us to be the authorized sony repair facility. So when the light engine went out on his LCD we went out and fixed it.

Now walmarts warranty is really weird. If you purchase an extended warranty from walmart your actually buying it from someone else. So if your tv breaks you then have to contact an 800 number and see what they want to do as far as repair.

So i guess to answer your question find out how your tv will be serviced if something goes bad. If they have a repair crew in store fix it. Or if a local authorized service shop is who will take care of your issue.

So if you really want to be 100 percent sure. Contact Sony and find out how in your area they will service your television.

I can tell you that sony service was AWESOME. With our sony service contract being what it was whe were on a 3 day limit to fix a tv once a claim was started. Sony overnighted everything and usually we had it the next day. That was us as a repair facility that is.
