Well, according to this article I didn't get a Jasper. The arcade I got just a week ago was manufacured 9/28/08 and had NXE pre-installed. It also has the white-face DVD tray instead of the silver, and runs quieter.

No biggie, I paid the extra $20 for a 2 year warranty from TRU so if it fails I'm not concerned.

Though, I had 2 360's fail within weeks of each other, right after a power spike so I'm wondering if that had more to do with it than bad equipment (since both were running at the time).

I might sell my 360 and grab a Jasper after Xmas. My coworker is looking for a 360 and he's gonna pay around 70. I told him I''d sell for $125.

It's the neew smaller chipset for both the CPU and GPU that produces less heat and should be less prone to failure.

exactly...the 90nm / 65 nm people discuss is actually the distance between the conducting channel in transistors on the substrate. Smaller = Better

Less power, less heat, less chance of failure(theoretically). It's like the opposite of the Million Dollar Man:

We can rebuild it. We have the technology, smaller, faster, quieter!

Also, 256MB onboard mem.

Yeah, it's got to be the falcon if the amps are the tell-tale sign. The other one it replaced is a falcon too, and I was going to move that one into the bedroom and sell the first one I bought used that died.

What's odd is the one I just got back from the repair center (the one I bought used with an '07 date) is a full replacement system, newer, and it runs as fast & quiet as the arcade I got back. Didn't have NXE pre-installed though, so I'm wondering what's really under the hood.

That new arcade is really puzzling though...it had NXE pre-installed, but it came with the 256MB memory card.

That is odd, according to what I've read the NXE after installation leaves 212MB onboard memory free. Free memory card!

The two times that I sent mine in for repair they sent me refurbs back. I've never technically had a unit repaired for me. It's faster for them to do it that way. Just send replacement units out and repair units in the background.

No, what's odd is that the system doesn't show any memory unit at all if the HDD or card isn't installed. Doesn't matter, I use the HDD anyway.

I've got a 512MB card that I keep my profiel on anyway, since it's easier to do that when I go from the bedroom to the living room.

My plan is...if mine ever goes bad, I'll end up buying an arcade version, swapping out the hard drive...send mine in for repair...then either use it as a 2nd box or wholesale it on ebay.

I used to design radios for the govt...one product could have 8 different sets of drawings depending on what version they got. Yes, it can get cumbersome.

I think it'll depend on how this line goes. If they royally screw up the Jasper boxes then I bet they'll scramble again. Anyone's guess right now...
