As for ths PS3, it's lagging Nov '07 numbers while Wii and 360 have growth. Odd console out in the recession. Last edited by blu2; 12-11-2008 at 10:51 PM. |

Pretty clear being the most expensive by far is causing a disparity for the PS3 numbers. Granted the PS3 is in a league of its own but still $400 is a tough pill to swallow during these times of hardship. |

I'm not shocked by these numbers at all. With the state of the economy, I bet people are only looking at price tags when they buy their kids gifts. I'm blown away by the Wii numbers though, just wow.
360 vs PS3 isn't too surprising to me. $$ talks, and right now people don't have any. I'd be curious to see the breakdown of sales by SKU. |

This is very sad news for the PS3. Even with the late start to this generation I was expecting the PS3 to eventually surpass the Xbox 360 in North American lifetime sales. I do not expect that to ever happen now. It will be a third place console in the U.S. for the rest of its lifecycle. Not cutting the price here has crippled its growth. I assume developers will continue to focus on the Xbox 360 first because of sales potential.

PS3 still offers the best gaming experiences with the best software lign despite not selling the most. I have a Wii and the software pales in comparison despite completely kicking the crap out of Sony and MS in units sold.
So no, have no reason to throw in the towel and stop having tons of fun ![]() |

The economy.
The weak dollar against the Yen. This is simply the wrong time (no matter how great a product you have) to be selling the most expensive gaming unit on the market. Many, many people still won't benefit by buying the PS3. Many don't own hi-def tvs yet. Why buy the PS3 over the 360 is you don't need/want a Blu-ray player. If I didn't own a PS3 and didn't have a hi-def tv and was looking to get a game console for my family, I'd get the 360 or the Wii. The numbers show that that is what the mainstream is thinking as well. I think the PS3 is the best console out there - for multi-media and hi-def. Unfortunately, I think people want a decent game system for the smallest hit to the wallet - and the PS3 isn't it. Really too bad, the PS3 deserves more. My point: I don't think the PS3 is "done for" in any way - I just wish it was doing better. |

Can't believe that many want a Wii. As for the PS3, sad to say but Sony's fault for not cutting the price. No wonder everyone takes MS's money handouts nowadays. Sad that PS3 actually had less sales than last year. All of the gaining PS3 did this year on 360 was pretty much lost in one month. Still amazes me how many people buy a 360 too, given it's hardware record and the value compared to PS3. But sometimes cheap is all people need. Glad I have a PS3, but sad about this because it means we'll still get the cancelled/late etc games being in 3rd.

Sure, this is no fun, but I enjoy the PS3, and that's all that matters to me.
As I'm sure it's been pointed out plenty of times, people often make the mistake of equating "best-selling" with "best". But we all know that a $100 CRT probably sells a lot more units than a $15,000 super-thin LCD. Obviously that's a big of an exaggeration (the 360 and PS3 aren't THAT different), but there's still a point somewhere in there. I'm just worried that this is yet another "lowest common denominator" sort of thing taking over. |

PS3 is still too expensive and it doesn't even peak until mid 2009 while the 360 already shot it's load and the Wii is a nice gimmick that will continue to sell...
the PS3 won't sell like the 360 or Wii until the system drops to 299 and God of War/White Knight Chronicles/Killzone 2 come out... it won't come down to 299 until late 2009 probably and by then, all of said games will be out in the US....so, if Sony is losing in a year from now, I will then throw in the towel... |
