Default Sony BDP-300 Not working

Sorry if this comes off as a rant, but I've been f#c&ing with this machine for the last 2 hours.

The Kingdom would not play in my machine, so I tried to update firmware 4.3 Machine locks mid-upload and down isn't functional at all. The player continually says "incomplete - need disc." What does the Sony trouble-shooting say?, download and try again. Did that. Three times. No success. Now my POS machine won't let me play ANYTHING until the firmware upload finishes. I've requested the disc from Sony, but it won't ship for 7-10 business days. Guess I won't be watching a Blu until 2009.

ANY suggestions on how to fix this?

I would just get a Panasonic DMP-BD35K.

Try using version 4.40

ftp://download.sony.com/US/bluray/UP...00_VER0440.EXE

EDIT: How are you burning the disc?

Unplug your machine and let it sit for a few then plug it back up and it will reboot, check to see what firmware you are using. Then update with the latest firmware.

Do a player factory reset (pg 53 of the manual). See if that returns it to normal operation. If yes, check what FW you are at and if not the latest go ahead and try to update again. If no, then you will probably have to send it for repairs.

Thanks for the responses so far. Nothing is working. According to the manual, holding down the stop and power button should reboot to factory settings......nothing.

Any other suggestions?

What is a good (free) way to burn the .iso file disc image for firmware update?

After downloading the 4.40 firmware no Blu-ray desk i have is playing. I have a bdps300 for about a year now. It was working until I installed the 4.40. the only problem i had was it was freezing during the clone wars and wanted blu-rays but it played the hulk fine. It still plays my dvds i put in. Please help.
I am out of the warrenty coverage.

Have you tried reinstalling the v4.40 firmware again?

Otherwise, whatever happened during the v4.3 install might have ultimately caused this issue.

I agree with the idea of re-downloading and re-installing 4.4. Sometimes the download itself can be corrupted. Try another download location if available.

Are you having this problem with any other Blu-Ray disks? Or with any DVDs?

I also have an BDP-300 (4.4) and while it is slow to load Blu-Ray films (DVDs load in seconds) and occasionally freezes, overall I am pleased with it. I understand well enough that this is first generation and that my future Blu-Ray player will be much faster and more stable.

If reinstalling the firmware doesn't work and you can still play DVDs but not Blu-ray Discs the blue laser diode may have died. It doesn't happen all that often but some do fail. Intermittent issues can be a sign of failing hardware.

Did other discs play back fine before the upgrade? Since it's no longer under warranty your only option would be to send it in for repair vice getting a new player.

The BDP-S300 has a one year warranty. I see you mentioned "about a year", are you just outside of one year? If not, you might want to get on the phone and have the issue documented before the one year is up else Sony won't fix the issue for free.
