I just noticed that The Warriors is $14.99 at our good pal Amazon.
http://www.amazon.com/Warriors-Ultim...f=pd_rhf_p_t_1 Love this movie! Does anyone have it? I've heard the PQ is awesome for a 1979 movie. Last edited by MountainBlu; 12-18-2008 at 09:11 PM. |

I own this great movie. It a perfect movie to capture the spirit of the 1970's.
It takes place over the course of one long summer night in NYC. Yes it was a low budget flick, but the story was pretty good and it does look great in Blu-ray. I didn't hesitate at all when this came out. For $15 you cannot go wrong. |

PQ is excellent on both the HD DVD and Blu-ray, as has been already said. I just wish that it was the theatrical cut instead, not that the "Director's Cut" is terrible or anything, just that it sort of lessens the impact of a couple of scenes (Baseball Furies entrance for one) and diminishes the overall atmosphere of the movie for me.

This movie is one of my cult faves. I'm not sure if the brief comic book cut-scenes really work, but I didn't find them to be a real distraction either (perhaps I was mentally prepared for them by the Rockstar video game). I was extremely impressed by the transfer of this movie, but then again the only times I've seen it are on well-worn VHS or on TBS/TNT...
I put a few caps of this in the screenshot thread for the curious. Well worth $15 bucks in my opinion if you are a fan of the movie and definitely a must-rent if you've never seen it before. Last edited by Cinema Squid; 12-19-2008 at 05:13 AM. |

It's just not what I grew up with, watching late at night on TNT (Or maybe it was TBS). |

The theatrical cut of The Warriors is one of the first films I've seen when I got an HD TV.
The Warriors blu ray (director's cut) has only been released in four English speaking countries (US, UK, Canada, Australia). Our one slim hope of getting the theatrical verison on blu ray is that if/when it gets released in other non-English speaking countries, it might be the theatrical version. I'm thinking especially of the countries where dubbing is required like France and Germany because they might not be willing to create a new audio file with the voiceover at the beginning. I'm sure they would prefer this, as long as Walter Hill doesn't try to block it. |

Saw The Warriors on Blu a while back & highly agree the PQ is incredible, much better than you would expect for a '70's film. Those who were involved in re-mastering this for the Blu release deserve both awards & accolades - stunning.
I know there are several versions of this film floating around. The only two I've seen are the SE DVD & the Blu; I know that the comic book intermissions were created for the SE DVD release, and weren't in the original. I don't mind them, but understand that those who saw the film on it's original theatrical release and/or the VHS/TV release (without these comic book sections) may find them jarring/distracting. I did have a question about the Blu release, however....In the SE DVD release, over the credits (when all of the characters had reached the ocean at the end), it listed the actors who were in the film that had passed on (up to that point of the SE DVD release, presumably). However, this was absent from the Blu release....Does anyone know why this was cut? I actually felt this made the film itself more poignant, but maybe that's just me...
