Default Hybrids To Be Or Not To Be

Thought i make a thread about this. I think it's a good idea cause just if you want to watch a movie in the car or something like that.

Plus i will say this for everyone who can't seem to read to well. THERE NOT FLIPPERS

With time i think a DVD copy will just become another special feature adding to home media convince and proving just how good Blu-Ray is.

When I read HYBRID, I thought you were referring to CD/SACD!

out of all my HDDVDs I think 1 of them is a combo. It's nothing special really, dodn't think there was much of a price diff either. I like what they did with Sleeping Beauty, just add a DVD copy with it, and that movie wasn't any more expensive too. Why bother spending $$$$ on R&D on this technology, their not going to get a return on it.

they need 50GB combos, so PQ and AQ is not compromised and they need to be no diffrerent in price.

color me skeptical.

I agree, those guidelines would be difficult to meet. But if it could happen, I'm for it.

Yes, if the 50 GB Blu is compromised, then it will be a sad day for the format.

If they're going to do it, wish they would have skipped the BD-25s and just stuck with BD-50s. Not sure it's a good idea overall though but I guess it depends on if the long-term strategy is for blu-ray to replace dvd or if it's for them to co-exist.

I would like to see this technique employed for BD Profile 3 / SACD hybrid music-related discs. I want hi-rez multi-channel music remasters to continue, but I want to be able to listen on both my SACD car stereo as well as my BD player.

They haven't been able to add a hybrid layer to a BD-50 yet, hence the BD-25s.

Yes, I like the idea of just throwing in a DVD copy with the Blu as well. Really don't think this "combo" thing is going to work.

It's not "THERE" as in "over there", but "THEY'RE" as in "THEY ARE." Just thought I'd throw that back out "there" since you don't seem to know proper English.

Until a blu-ray player is in every SUV or car, and portable blu-ray players are less than 100 bucks (like the DVD players)....I like the idea of hybrids. It gives me more options, especially if you travel or have multiple viewing stations.

if no playback issues, I'd welcome hybrids. A person will be accumulating BDs without owning a player. The problem will be the pricing.

I don't see what the problem is. I think it's a good "trojan horse" stategy to get people to adopt Blu-ray who are otherwise resistant. Studios could release only Blu-ray hybrids as DVD versions. Then at some critical point in market penetration, studios stop producing the DVD layer and electronics manufacturers stop producing DVD players.

The problem is that a similar strategy was a total failure for the DUDers. People either want HD, or SD...to buy it because it has both does NOT work because of the higher price (when compared to DVD). So the plan is to flood the market with 25GB hybrid discs? Not what anybody with a real dedication to the format would want. Cutting down on extras (due 25GB), PQ, and AQ quality to have two 9GB layers of SD. Please, they should not insult our intelligence with this nonsense. The problems this would cause with existing players would be significant, and to what avail?? This would just give the FUDers a lot of ammo and deservingly so. Most early adopters will not promote, support or defend this "idea", starting with me. If they want to promote or PUSH something...how about movies like LOTR in 100 GB BD discs, now that makes sense. I will make my feelings known of this issue anywhere I see it discussed because it is total garbage.

Well, DUD itself was a total failure--and that's a separate issue. It doesn't mean the concept of hybrid discs is not a good one.

The problem is that the people who want SD are holding back the floodgates of HD. Hybrid discs are a catalyst to opening the floodgates.

I'm sure it can be implemented to deliver BD-50 with another layer for DVD.

Not if it's implemented properly.

I'd welcome hybrids also so long as it doesn't affect pricing, one-sided and doesn't detract from the number of layers a BD can have.
