Default Linux Blu Ray via nVidia Quatro 4600?

I just got a Dell Blu Ray drive with my new Precision T7400.

Dell technical support said that the nVidia Quatro FX4600 graphics card I also purchased was necessary to get Blu Ray support on Linux.

Does any one have info on how Blu Ray would work (play movies, write data) on Linux with Quatro functionality?

There is no Linux support for Blu-ray movie playback.

Good Luck with that one bro... You won't get bluray playback on Linux for some time yet.

here was your first mistake... believing a Dell "Technician".

Sadly, the men upstairs continue to ignore us. If there's Blu-Ray support on Linux anytime soon, it'll be thanks to hackers, not any company or BDA member. (That's for movies, I believe Linux was actually the first operating system in the world to support writing them )

If there wasn't so much DRM, we'd be good to go already. And I'll bet you my firstborn the first open-source BD app will beat the shit out of Cyberlink's latest excretion, windows media player, or whatever those windows jockeys are using now.

*Sigh.......*

Being years behind Windows and the apps that run on windows is a hell of a speed bump to deal with there friend.

I suspect a lot of copying of code from the mean old Windows apps just to pull off BD playback on Linux. If at all!

So, when(if) BD playback does occur, be sure to thank Cyberlink/Corel/ArcSoft for the base code.

Sorry!
