Default Missing Subtitles on Standard DVD's

I have recently purchased a Samaung BD-P1500 Blu Ray player. I use it mainly to watch standard DVD's, but have noticed that their are missing subtitles when foreign languages are spoken during English movies.

This are not missing on my standard DVD player. I have only tried a couple of DVD's (Ronin and Papillon) and the only way to see the foreign subtitles is to turn the English subtitles on for the entire movie.

Has any one else experienced this issue. Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers.

Isn't there a second set of subtitles you can enable with your remote? With a "SUBTITLE" button or something. I know this would be inconvenient...

I tried both subtitle options on Ronin and they were both full english. What I am after are the ones that automatically appear when only foreign people speak.

Seems you're talking about "forced" or "hard encoded" subtitles or whatever the term is.
To my knowledge these subtitles are part of the picture, meaning you shouldn't be able to turn them off or on.

However, since you cannot see them, have you already checked the ... um ... 'unlikely' ... the 'x files' solutions?
Like maybe you have a different zoom factor and the subtitles are outside the visible picture frame?
Maybe that's clutching at straws but given the strange thing you're experiencing...
