Default Insignia NS-2BRDVD: I feel like an idiot!

Received this player for free after purchasing 10 blu-rays and an HDMI cable from best buy. I kept the blu-rays and the cable and gave the player to my parents. I recently bought them Mamma Mia and their own cable, but I soon realized that the player won't allow them to use certain features... it's a lower profile, etc.

Does anyone have any idea when Insignia will release a firmwire update for this problem? I feel like a damn idiot for purchasing this player and giving it as a gift for my parents. At the time, it was a good deal (considering the blu-rays and the cable, etc.)

Anyone familiar with this problem? Thanks in advance for the help.

The FW updates won't make a profile 1.1 player into 2.0(BD live) unless the specs or player box specifically state that it can.
So, don't expect this player to be updated profile 2.0 unless there is a disclosure making such a statement.

Not sure about your parents but if they are anything like mine they would NEVER use BD live or anything like that. Unless they are tech savy I wouldn't worry about it too much.

Cool

I fixed the problem. I went to another Best Buy and told them that I recieved the player as a gift and I didn't have the receipt. They gave me a gift card worth the amount of the player now (which was $199.99+tax.... came out to be around $216)... so I just used that money and bought another 160 gig PS3... PROBLEM SOLVED!!!!

Not bad considering I got the player for free after buying 10 blu-ray disks and a HDMI cable... HAHAHAHA! I win!

I guess that shows Best Buy will kiss anyones ass. Best Buy did something for someone that most stores wont do. I'll think about doing the same thing sometime in the future.

I'm not calling you a liar... but, Best Buy is never that nice. I believe it's againts store policy. Must be something to do with the fact Insignia is there brand??

I'm not lying. Best Buy has a Holiday return policy where you can return something without a receipt within a certain time period. Granted, it WAS a Best Buy brand (Insignia). Lying or not, I now have two PS3's. I'm just sharing with you my story and how I got past the trickery of Best Buy with some trickery of my own. They take down your phone number though and I think track how many times you return something without a receipt.

Other people know this loophole too... they say you can only do this a few times a year before they catch on. I know it sounds unbelievable but its a true story.

Red face

Here's a picture of the PS3's and my current collection above it.

BTW-- my parents haven't had the time to use the PS3 yet. It's currently in my den. I bought them the BD player just to watch Mamma Mia. They're huge fans of ABBA.

So you live with your parents?? So really bought your parents a gift for you?? gotta love it!!

Still not calling you a liar, but I could go take a pic of 2 ps3 boxes (Ihave a 60gb, and a 40gb) and tell any story I wanted to. Point is, your pic don't add anything to the story

I just have one PS3 BD remote for myself. I don't know what else to say, really. The story is what it is.. believe it or not. Most of you seem to not really believe what I'm saying but since I created the post with my problems regarding the firmware of an obsolete player then I guess I can go ahead and say the thread is closed because I no longer have the player in question anymore. The picture adds to the story because those are the two PS3's I was talking about.

I'm just messing with you I have no reason not to beleive you. Nice job... If I would have known that I would have jumped on that deal a couple weeks ago (I didn't because I allready have 2 ps3's and a sony bd-350).

I screwed WalMart last week with season 1 & 2 of Weed's. Bought them the day atyer Thanks giving on DVD for $8 each from Target, then ended up ordering them on Blu from Amazon. I took them to WalMart and returned them w/o a receipt for a $47 gift card. (walked back to electronics and got 2 more Blu's) Made me feel good because I hate WalMart

Never said I didn't believe you ... I could just imagine my parents trying to use a PS3 remote to play BD movies.

Thumbs up

THANK YOU. That's exactly what I've been trying to portray this entire time but I kept getting flamed. Everyone hates Best Buy's inflated prices on BD players and disks... and I was just offering a story of how one guy came out on top, FINALLY! It was a loophole.. and I admit it was somewhat of a dishonorable thing to do.. but it was a legitimate loophole nonetheless.

I have two younger brothers so they currently use the PS3 in the den. My personal set-up is in my bedroom. The Dynex is a Dynex.. not the best, but its well-calibrated and it does just fine. the AVS forum guys seem to love it as much as I do. As much as my parents love their ABBA, they dont have as much free time as normal people do to enjoy it (they work long hours.) Enough justifying my case, already!

Long story short... I am a Best Buy customer and I finally caught a major break past their expensive HDMI cables and inflated Blu-Ray disk prices.

BTW... nice HT set-up!
