Exclamation Dark Knight defective sound?!

I just got my new copy of The Dark Knight on BD and was watching it with friends.. and low and behold, the default sound was not lossless TrueHD. So I turned on the TrueHD and the sound was fine.
The problem happens later in the film.
At 3 exact points in the movie, the sound goes out and doesn't come back unless I pause the movie and restart. I can't seem to get it to not do this on the TrueHD soundtrack and I can't find any other complaints of this.
Does anyone else know about the sound going out when watching TDK on a PS3 in TrueHD?

Bump.

Really though, there are actually at least 7 points (now that I watched it all) where the sound will go out.
It is most annoying and I am about to go to the store and change it for another copy.

Anyone else have their sound go out on TDK?

It might be some of the scenes that Nolan intentionally made silent untul the jokers theme slowly crawls in.

I am going o return it tomorrow, I assume it is merely a bad copy.

Well, I don't think so since it happens in the middle of dialogue, in the middle of the biggest explosion in the movie, and at other points where it is very noticeably wrong. I have seen the movie before and knew this was not right.
So it must be a bad disc if no one else has had this problem.

Ok everyone...
I just returned my copy of TDK to Amazon and got a new one. I put it in my PS3 to test it, which is updated to the latest firmware, and I get the SAME RESULT.

There are several scenes throughout the movie where the sound just goes out! I have never had this on any other movie or game or anything. It just goes out in the middle of several scenes, from the bank manager shooting his shotgun at Joker's crew to the Big explosion of the hospital. It is crazy cause it disrupts the movie about 10 times!
They are always at the EXACT same places in the movie, and I managed to watch several other Blu-rays before and after it with no problems.
Once the sound goes out, it stays out until I pause the movie and start it up again. So if I just pause as soon as it goes out and hit play again, the sound is back, but i am NOT going to watch a movie that I have to pause every few minutes!

I cannot seem to prevent the sound, and TrueHD or not does not make a difference. If I watch it in TrueHD, the sound goes out. If I switch it back to the default regular sound, the sound STILL goes out in the same places!
Is it possible there is a problem with the discs? Or maybe just a batch of them that Amazon might have? Or maybe there is another problem at hand... with the PS3?

ANYONE else have this problem?? Where the sound just goes out?

I was watching TDK last night in what i thought was True HD sound. Upon checking it, i was suprised that the default audio setting was Dolby Digital. Had no issues with the sound, but i wasn't watching it in True HD. Im going to check tonight to see if i have the same problem as you, but i got my copy of TDK from Best Buy so

Well as I said, I looked right off to see the sound setting (I always check this when starting a movie) and found that it was not set at TrueHD so I turned it onto that. I noticed the sound drop problem.
Then I returned the video for a new one.
I tried the new one and had the same result.
I decided to see if it also showed up on the default Dolby sound, and it ALSO went out.
So unless it failed to change sound settings on the, both audio settings went out on me at the same points. I will double check this later tonight, but it seems to me that it should affect anyone watching the movie.. or at least watching it on a PS3...
and yet no one else has reported this...

Does anyone know how I can get in touch with WB to get more info on this?!
I want them to fix this since I cannot listen to the movie!!

I tried their site, but I have had no response and I am not even sure I sent it to the right place.

Have you tried going into your PS3 audio settings and selecting the automatic configuration option? This is a long shot of course, but it's worth attempting if you haven't tried it yet. I had a movie dropping audio when I took my PS3 to my parents house for the holidays and doing this, oddly enough, fixed the problem.

sounds to me like disc error/receiver problem. Interesting it keeps happening at the same spots though. I'd take another TrueHD movie, watch it beginning to end and see if you have a problem with that, then go back to TDK. I sent WB an email once about a movie I thought I was having a problem with, and they did reply after about a week to swap the disc for me. I think it was in a general "Contact Us" area on the main movie page. Keep us posted!!!

I had a similar issue with Prince Caspian, and I am curious to the type of setups involved. What type of receiver is used? What type of connection? I have no problem with TDK on Pioneer equipment, and it might be a receiver issue. I have heard rumors of problems with TDK, but these are the first specifics. On setups with problems, I would try outputting the sound as PCM instead of TrueHD. If that fixes the problem, then it is an issue with the receiver.

Well I have a Yamaha HTR-6090, a PS3, HDMI cables, a Sony Bravia, Polk subwoofer, Yamaha and JBL speakers, and a partridge in a pear tree.
I have watched several other movies in TrueHD and have never had the sound go out. It seems that every time I watch TDK, the sound goes out at the exact same place. I can even pause the movie, back it up, play it again, and the sound will go out at the exact same place.
Since the PS3 is suppose to decode the TrueHD to PCM, the receiver and speakers should have nothing to do with the sound going out. The ONLY thing I changed to my set-up was giving it a better subwoofer since the last one died. However no other movie has dropped sound even with this new subwoofer.
It has to either be the disc, or the PS3. Since it is the second disc, it could be a batch of bad discs. I have to go through the movie all the way to see if it has the same problem the same amount of time (9 or 10 times), as I heard other people have been getting dropped sound but at different times or a different number of times than what I have.

I have contacted WB about this on their main page with their feedback form, but I have heard nothing yet.

No, works fine here. I've watched it 3 or 4 times on my main system using a PS3 with an HDMI connection to a Onkyo 606. I loaned my 2nd PS3 to my parents while I try to decide on what blu-ray player to get them and I watched it while visiting them as well. That time it was using the PS3 with a HDMI connection directly to the TV though. Have you tried getting rid of the receiver calibration? When I first got the 606 and did its calibration, I had some weird issues in movies where I couldn't hear sound that I knew was supposed to be there. It was probably there in every movie but I only noticed it in movies I knew really well. Anyway, got rid of the calibration (did a manual cal instead) and things were back to normal. I've never gotten around to trying the mic-cal again since I've been happy with my manual settings. Maybe something you can try if you're running out of ideas.

I have TDK and a PS3 as my Blu-ray player. Sorry to say but I have watche the movie about 5 times now. With the true HD set and nothing, meaning I don't have any problems. the only thing I can say is MAYBE and I do mean MAYBE somethings up with your PS3. Not saying this is your issue.

See, this is exactly why I'm fuming at WB for not including proper menus and not defaulting to the HD audio track.

How many other people are innocently unaware that they're not watching WB discs with the HD track engaged?

If they're unaware, then chances are they're not missing it anyway. This is how Warner has chosen to do their movies, just like Universal has a certain setup.

Anyway, does your receiver turn off when this happens? Is it only during loud scenes? Does it occur at any volume? I'm wondering if your receiver isn't clipping from being pushed too hard or just shutting off to avoid overheating. There may be an issue with your equipment rather than the movie.
