The Panasonic 65" 480Hz model sells for $6999 @ BB. I wonder how it looks.

"LG and other manufacturers have argued that interjecting more frames, or increasing the frames per second in which the source material is recorded, eliminates the judder even more."
Ok, perhaps I am missing something here. In the same spirit of the aspect ratio threads, we should want to preserve the frame rates. If the director shoots the film at 24 fps, then I want to watch it at 24 fps. I though the concept was to show each film frame 5 times converting 24 fps to 120 Hz and preserve the film experience. Are the manufactures suggesting a process to interpolate and add extra frames? Yuck! ![]() |

All of Panasonics 2008 models were 480hz. With CES just around the corner I would suspect Panasonic is going to be showing some mind blowing 2009 model Plasmas.

The plasmas can defiantly get better. They can get thinner and with the new energy star rating system improvements they have a lot of work to do to get that certification now. Also look at the extreme contrast plasma that pioneer showed at this years ces. It would be nice to see all new models either have the THX Display certification or start having them professionally calibrated right out of the box. They can get much better.

It does NOT refresh at 480Hz, plasma does not need to. It has a much faster response time than LCD and does not have to have gimmicks like "120Hz" and "240Hz" to overcome its shortcomings, LCD does. The 480Hz refers to the processing of the plasma - that is to say the calculations performed in order to lock in on 3:2 cadences and interlaced program material. Quote:
That's why you just pick up a signature Kuro plasma from Pioneer and you're good to go with the best TV on the market. Nothing any other manufacturer is bringing out in the next few years will blow it away, nothing. |
