If the studios want to speed up blu ray disc sales I think they should have pricing depending on perceived value of the movie. For example, I have no problem paying $30 for The Dark Knight or Wanted because I am going to get the most out of the blu ray experience out of effects driven action/scifi films. What I DO have a problem with is paying the same price for Hot Rod or 40 Year Old Virgin on blu ray.
I never owned 40 Year Old Virgin or Hot Rod on DVD, and I really want them because they are funny movies. I don't want to buy the DVD because, well, I am all blu now! I also don't feel as though comedies give you the most valuable blu ray experience you know? I think a $25 to $30 price point for movies like TDK and Wall-E are appropriate but I think comedies and such such should be in the $17 - $20 price point. Does anyone agree? |
