I bought some HK concerts and studio recordings. Pretty good I would say. Out of them all, the Tsai Chin concert looks and sounds the best. The Alan Tam, Tsai Chin and Hacken Lee studio recordings are pretty neat too. Looks like HK is trying to put out quality blu's. Lets just hope the VCD era is done once and for all.

Are the concert blu-ray's pretty cheap? My brother and sister-in-law are going to China in a few months on vacation and just curious if the prices are pretty low for Blu-rays. Not sure if they are planning to stay in mainland China or going to HK though.

I'm from Canada, so right now they are pretty expensive with the Canadian dollar not as strong. I'm paying over 40 bucks canadian for each concert. It's cheaper if you get them in HK.
Anybody picking up Jacky Cheung's 07 World Tour concert. It comes with 2 lossless tracks. 5.1 PCM and 5.1 DTS HD MA. I took a look at the song list and I'm gonna get it for sure!

I am not sure but I believe Japan's Avex Trax supports Blu Ray. I would love to see some Ayumi Hamasaki, Kotoko, Nami Tamaki...etc on blu, seeing as I have watched my DVDs so many times they are running thin
I love that song! I was wondering if that song was ever recorded in a studio because all the versions I've heard was from a concert.
I don't think there is a studio released version, I read somewhere that Jacky singing it live was so immaculate they just decided to use that version on albums.

Yes, there are several Blu-rays out from Avex. I'm one of the few reviewers who gets the DVD concert releases from them but unfortunately because Blu-ray is not too big in Japan (sales are quite low for music BD's as opposed to anime BD's), I'll probably make a purchase when I go there and can get it cheap or used.

Bumping this thread because I went on a Jacky Cheung tear.
One thing I am really impressed with about these HK music Blu-rays is that while they may be expensive, the companies, which usually seem to be involved with HK Universal Music do not screw around making them premium products.
For example, tonight I watched:
I expect that the comments above regarding the 2007 tour Blu-ray relate to the fact that it was encoded in 1080/50i, which was probably the way it was shot, but even so, this concert is a stunning 188 minutes long. Now, it was probably filmed over two or more nights, and it's possible that Jacky never performed for that long on any one night, but watching the concert is exhilarating, even for someone like me who doesn't understand any Chinese language. This guy was already 46 in 2007, but not only does he sing, he bounces around a cross between a ballet dancer and Elvis, and he must have gone through five or six costume changes at least over the massive run time of the concert. Unbelievably at one point, the concert takes a turn into some kind of mini stage musical, and Cheung is singing while acting on stage. The end of this mini musical seems to signal the end of the concert, but we're only at 132 minutes...the apparent encore goes on for almost an hour. It's true that there are several stretches where Jacky talks to the audience (in what I assume is Cantonese, with brief moments of English), and he also makes a show of introducing his large backup band at the start of the encore, but there is still a ton of music here, and I can't imagine how hard he had to work to pull this concert, which is almost more like a stage show, off.
The video quality on this concert is very good, but I don't think this 2007 recording released in 2009 is quite up to the level of later concert releases on Blu-ray. I didn't spot any compression issues, though I'm only watching on a 50" plasma, but the picture does look a touch washed out, not to any bothersome level, and blacks are fine, but still, there is a slightly muted appearance to the picture, having said that, detail is pretty good, there are lots of closeups and a normal editing speed is generally maintained. However, the 96/24 DTS-HD MA 5.1 sound quality was quibble-free and undeniably top notch. I have to admit, I was surprised to see a 96/24 5.1 track on a single-disc Blu-ray with a 188-minute concert that also had a LPCM 5.1 track, but clearly Universal Music and/or ioi Limited knew they could only have one reference track on the disc, which is filled to capacity. It's a little odd then, that it isn't the default option, but that's seen to quickly with the remote or in the menus. There are no extras as such--hard to argue about given the massive concert--but a music-only Dolby Digital 2.0 track functions as a karaoke option, and the release comes with a nice glossy slipcover and a color booklet.
The next Jacky Cheung Blu-ray concert appears to be the Private Corner Mini Concert, which is a markedly different affair. Released in 2010 and more like a PBS special than a full concert, the venue is much more intimate, and it's clear that this is a more of an arthouse-style venture for Jacky, who sings several covers, including a few songs in English. Initially, Cheung is seated, but eventually, he just has to move, and then the concert gets a bit more energetic, with a pretty brilliant lighting display (that includes some strobe effects), and a bit of Jacky revving up the audience. Still, this ends up being much more relaxed than the 2007 concert, and it actually made for a great follow-up to it, just to sort of calm down a little bit. Interestingly, the concert seems to end just before the hour mark (Cheung makes a point of looking at his watch a few times while talking with the audience, I don't know if that's meant to mean it's getting late, or that the concert is running over a set length of time), but then there is another lengthy encore and band introductions, which means the total concert runs 82 minutes.
Perhaps because this concert is so much shorter, UMHK / ioi Limited were able to use a massive 96/24 LPCM 5.1 track, which is the default track. Interestingly, there is ample space on the disc, which begs the question as to why only one extra was included on the Blu-ray, and three music videos were placed on a separate bonus DVD disc. Regardless, the picture quality on this 2010 concert is wonderful, with sharp and vivid colors (lookout for Jacky's subtle hairstyle) and abundant detail. The aforementioned audio is suitably excellent, as well. Once again, in addition to alternate options for the main audio, another Dolby Digital 2.0 track is included for karaoke purposes.
