first time setup - Blu-ray Forum

Sony 550 Onkyo 606 what do I set them both at so it plays tru hd and hd dts or plays whatever format the movie was recorded in so I do not have to set up everytime and figure out the settings. shouldn't the receiver do it automatically?

Do you have your player set to Bitstreem?

not yet in the process of buying them but just wanted to know what to set up as out of the box

Set BD Audio to Direct. The S550 doesn't have a bitstream/PCM setting for the HDMI output. When set to direct, the player and receiver negotiate a bitstream connection when the receiver is HDMI 1.3 and has the proper decoders.
