Default Rocky Reviews Wanted

Only 5 user reviews for Rocky.

Is Rocky worth it? I love the movie and watch it once or twice a year. But is the PQ upgrade worth it?

I want to hear from owners of the Rocky Blu-ray.

I would only buy a box set if it didn't come with Rocky V. Love the first 4, and Rocky Balboa was good, but Rocky V was just awful.

Watching how the kid treats Rocky plus the way his own son acts is disgusting.

I wanted to buy it when I bought Rocky Balboa, but a lackluster review of Rocky on another site staved off my picking it up. I would love to have the original film in my BD collection, but I think I can hold off until it's cleaned up, goes to $10, or I get really desperate. Btw, Rocky Balboa is great!

It isn't a huge upgrade , it does look slightly better then the DVD version but I'll agree with the others and say wait for the boxset with all six to come out. The quality just doesn't cut it.

I love the Rocky movies but I have held off buying this one as I think there will most definately be a box set. I do have the sixth and it was fabulous. I absolutely agree with those of you who hate the fifth. All of them are awesome except the fifth. In fact, I watched the Rocky marathon on AMC HD the other day and watched the fifth since my wife had never seen that one and I hadn't see it in a long time. My wife agreed it sucked compared to all the others. I'll say this about the first one though concerning its pq, I know alot have complained about its pq on Blu-ray and I haven't seen it but the AMC HD version looked superb so it sounds like the AMC HD version looks way better than the Blu-ray version.

Thanks for responding on the PQ. It's good to hear from someone who actually watched the Blu-ray.

It looks good at times and just OK at others. If you have MGM HD wait for them to run it. The Blu-ray looks identical to their brodcast.

Quite honestly, if you love the film, there is no reason not to own the BD. Especially if you can find it for cheap.

Yeah, I own the first Rocky and it's slight upgrade from the DVD PQ wise, also all the special features from the 30th anniversary DVD are not on the Blu-ray. So I would wait until either Fox/MGM remasters it and includes the DVD features or just wait for the Boxset. Now Rocky Balboa...It's a beautiful disc to watch go ahead and get that one.

I refuse to buy it because it is Bare Bones. I will have to hold out for a fully loaded version. Luckily my DVD version looks great on the projector.

The picture has little definition and it has the worst grain out of all the Blu-rays I've seen and this is coming from someone who loves grain.. It looks like it is snowing 85% of it's runtime. It was watchable on my 92" screen but it's hard to get into it on my 50" plasma, the grain was more distracting on it.. The color were 70ish as one would expect.. it has solid blacks but only a few scenes looked high-def and those scenes don't last long... This movie is a pretty inconsistent in the PQ department. I expected more from a movie of this caliber but it is true to the source, I will give it that much.

It's worth it if you can get it dirt cheap like I did... just watch out for those early MGM titles :scary:

Thanks everyone for the info. I'll probably wait for the next upgrade. I bought it 2x on DVD because they upgraded the sound. Not sure if I want to buy it and 3 months later have a new edition available.

They already redid Casino Royale and Fifth Element; I hope Rocky and Batman Begins will get the same treatment.

this is gona sound funny, buy Rocky 5 is actually my favorite (before Balboa came out, now thats my fav). maybe its cause I LIVE IN PHILLY AND THATS HOW PEOPLE REALLY ARE here, LOL. Something about how rocky started with noting and ende up wih nothing, i really like. Also, he knocks Tommy Gunn out and he lands on the septa bus, classic. "Hey Tommy. I din't hear no bell, one more round"

lastly rocky 3 by far is the worse, thunderlips!!!!! SERIOUSLY?? then Mr. T TWICE!!! BAD JUST BAD!!! R.I.P. MICKEY

Watching Rocky 1, Rocky 2 and then Rocky Balboa is a pretty powerful experience. I love 3 and 4 for other reasons but it's hard to beat the story told in the first 2 and then the closure of 6.

As much as I love Rocky, I really want to hold out for the box set. If I see it in the $10 range though I'll get it and sell it when the box set hits.

I believe I read part of the master for Rocky 1 was damaged in a fire. Barring any kind if complete restoration, the existing release is going to be as good as it gets.
