A Bluray player needs to have 1 gig memory. If it doesn't have built in memory, then you need another source, hence flash memory.

becuase the content is usually downloaded from the internet.. so the player needs somewhere to store it so you can use it..

or invest in a PS3 and it will save direct to the hard drive

Does the content stay on your flash drive? Or is it just temporary?

Yes, it stays there until you delete it. You can clear the BD Data in the Player OS.
