Sadly, the original arrived when developers still didn't understand the complex architecture of the PlayStation 3, which is why PS3 owners got a very poor version of F.E.A.R. However, from everything we've heard, Monolith won't let that happen this time around.
And to help prove it, a playable demo is on the way to both the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Marketplace, and both versions should be mostly identical. According to Strategy Informer, Warner Bros. has confirmed that the F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin demo should drop towards the end of this month, although they didn't divulge a specific date. However, if you've downloaded the latest Qore episode, you will see that it's scheduled for the PSN for January 15, which is this coming Thursday. That would make sense, but we haven't bean able to confirm that date just yet. Either way, we're excited to get a chance to see this highly anticipated sequel, as the original was a well-received atmospheric FPS (on the 360 and PC, anyway), and Monolith has revealed that this will be a direct sequel. They're not counting any of the expansions the PC version may have had; they've made it clear that F.E.A.R. 2 picks up where the original F.E.A.R. left off. So perhaps now is a good time to pick up the first game at a budget price if you didn't get a chance to play it.
While it's certainly true that the FPS genre is one of the most competitive in the industry, something like F.E.A.R. can do very well because it features an interesting implementation of a survival/horror feel. So if you like freaky, scary games and you like the fast-paced intensity of the FPS, than this one should be right up your alley.
if you haven't played the original. do yourself a favor..and go get it...right now.
i'm pumped for a proper sequel i didn't see a thread for this game either...so off we go!
