I noticed that many of the reviewers on the site like to link an alternate movie for an actor/actress upon first mention within the review. I believe this is a great thing, until I read a review of a movie with Owen Wilson in it and the linked movie was Drillbit Taylor. On to the suggestion:
I believe it would be better to link the blu-ray.com page search result for a specific cast or crew member. This would also further encourage properly placing cast & crew names onto the blu-ray.com movie page. For example instead of linking Drillbit Taylor one would link the name Owen Wilson. I really like the search "cast & crew" feature and believe it should be bolstered more so that all the movies in the database have at least the main actors listed if not more. I believe using this feature more directly through all your reviews will encourage it being bolstered as well as give the reader of the review a proper sampling of what the actor has done (and is in blu) versus another seemingly random movie that the actor is in. In addition, this would seem to make the review more timeless as it will list all movies from when the reader clicks the name instead of a movie that may not be an actor's greatest work nor the most recent. damn, no replies to this yet?
I think thats a great idea. Although for some reason that has been like the norm in movie reviews to list movies they have been in ... perhaps, doing both. Link actors name, plus whatever movies they like to do. |

Working through the backlog to support a better cast & crew search is a dubious and possibly mundane task. However, placing a link to to the cast and crew search instead of some random movie is not. And a link to all movies an actor/actress has on Blu is much better in the long run than some random movie that may not even be relevant in 1-2 years. This idea pays off in both the long and short term. Properly listing a handful of main actors/crew when the movie is first submitted to the database is also something I see as not that difficult. The linking should be automated, as it should be in the PHP. This is already being done for several movies that have come out recently and seems to be catching on. Once again doing this for the backlog of movies that have none listed could be a dubious and mundane task. But starting to do this for all movies from here forward will quickly grow the list of blu-rays listed for each relevant cast and/or crew member search. Alternatively there might be some sort of script that could be written to pull the top actors for a movie from IMDB as well as some of the main crew members like director, producer, etc. Once written this could be run to populate data for all movies in the Blu-Ray.com database.
