I am thinking of buying this media center:
http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/S59847582 Here are my reasons for being interested in this unit: 1) I live in a place I don't own, so I can hang the TV on the wall. 2) I need the room on the top level to place my center speaker and front L/R speakers since I cannot hang them to the sides and the room is small so I won't have room to work with on the side of an entertainment unit. 3) I like the storage space for my media and books, so I don't have to place those in another room due to limited space. Reasons that concern me about this unit: It says that I can hang the TV on the large flat back that you see in the picture, but that is pressed wood and I am worried that if I put screws into it that it will crumble. Does anyone have suggestions on how to hang it? I have a 42" Westinghouse LCD. Can I just drill screws into the TV and the other end through the back of the wood and bolt the back side? Here is my TV: http://www.westinghousedigital.com/d...px?itemnum=125 Thanks! |

From what it sounds like, that backboard is meant to hold TVs but I am not sure how much weight it would hold. To be blunt, you are better off buying a TV entertainment center from Target because IMO, the quality of that will be better than that of Ikea.

I would say your best bet would be to attach a wall mount to the backboard with the use of toggle bolts, so that the weight of the TV is pulling forward on the pressboard, not downwards.
TV mounts can be ordered online, and toggle bolts are available at any hardware store. |

I actually saw this today when i went out bed shopping.
Nice little unit. They had a 40" on theirs, in the ikea showroom. I saw on the spec's that its rated for 143 lbs. Hopefully your display doesn't weigh more than that. In many ways this is a LOT easier than wall mounting. Given that there are 2 ports already built in, all you'd have to do is some measuring and make sure you have clearance for your center channel. go talk to them. make sure it'll take a 42incher. cheers, L. P.S. looked pretty sweet in birch or whatever the light wood was.. (edit: Ikea only lists white and black for these, although I could've sworn the one i saw was birch..)
