Default Movie series where just the 1st one (of 2, 3, or more) is good enough

Are you like me? Do you feel pressured sometimes to purchase the entire set, when you know you only cared for the first movie in the series?

I am debating whether to get the entire Matrix and Pirates trilogy. I already have the Matrix trilogy on DVD, and I know even just one would be fantastic on Blu-ray. I actually only cared for the original Matrix. I recently saw for the first time POTC1, and apparently the next two aren't as good. I'd rather put the money into series I really like, like Bourne or Band of Brothers.

Have you purchased, or are you planning to purchase, just the 1st one in a movie series?

Well band Of Brothers is a mini-series for TV so it's kinda like a 10-hour movie split in 10 parts.

But yeah I know what you mean, I feel compelled to get every movie in the series, even if I'm not a fan of some of the sequels. Although Terminator 2 kicks the previous and following ones' asses.

Thankfully, I usually buy boxsets so that I feel like it was an easier buy to make, as I didn't have to go through the process of acquiring sequels I'm not too fond of.

And by the way, you need to give the two Pirates Of The Caribbean sequels a chance, you might love them.

Oh this has the possibility of being a great thread.

For me its the Rambo series. I only care for the original (First Blood) and the newest movie "Rambo". I disregard the 2nd and 3rd movies.

i agree with kynch on the pirates movies.....maybe some people say they don't like the 2nd and 3rd....but that doesn't mean you will. i thought they were fantastic movies, but to each his own. i would say buy the pirates boxset for sure. matrix, definitley up to..i've held off the box to get the first. the bourne is a must collection for sure.

The Original Star Wars Trilogy is the only Star Wars for me. I haven't bought the Matrix set either - I don't think I like Revolutions/Reloaded enough to buy them.

Highlander. Just the first sequel was bad, the ones after that were tolerable.

Same here

Also transporter 1. Can't stand the second one and the third isn't much better.

The first Matrix is definitely the best, but for $35, I got the trilogy on HD DVD. To me that was a no brainer as the 2nd and 3rd are reference quality discs with a lot of great extra features.

I think if they were released as standalone movies, they would have faired better as they do have great action and amazing visual effects. So I don't exactly cry for owning them.

I usually will get the full series of trilogys eventually, but just because I collect movies. Speaking of trilogys I would love to see the scream triolgy on blu.

The Planet of the Apes. I am a big fan, and own the collection in BD. However, all of the movies after the first were just OBVIOU$ in their intent.

I actually really liked Beneath as well, but I see what you mean.

I have a few series that meet this criteria...

1) The Matrix: The first one is all you need

2) Jaws: There's no need to see any of the terrible sequels

3) Rocky: The first one is great but I don't need II, III, IV, or *gulp* V. I did however pick up "Rocky Balboa" since it's a solid ending.

4) The Godfather: Parts I and II are classics but Part III is very average. However, the trilogy comes together in one set so I have all three.

5) Rambo: Not the greatest series ever but First Blood is a solid film. The next two sequels are pretty much junk (although I do watch them from time to time) and the fourth installment (Rambo) is actually a decent action film.

The Matrix is that for me. I own the collection on DVD but I didn't buy the collection on Blu because I don't really care for the two sequels and luckily, they are coming out with just the first on Blu . Pirates is another, I like the first , love the second but the third was very average but I needed to complete the series. I'm also going to buy the third Mummy even though I dislike it just to have the entire trilogy.

Yeah I love the Rocky franchise, but I do agree with omitting four and "five", but come on man, Rocky three was the one with some of the biggest stars of the eighties in it!

"Clubber, what is your prediction for the fight"? ....Pain....
