I love the user interface styling, very swish!

Looks like I'll be swapping a huge harddrive into my PS3 sooner than I thought!

Wow, looks great. I cannot wait.. hopefully will include some kind of cable card for U.S., so I can get rid of local cable company box, and rental fee associated with it.

Love the PSP integration. Now I can hope 2.5" hard drives continue to fall in price and will wait until this comes out till I get at least a 500GB drive lol..

Shouldn't be too difficult to hide the little PlayTV box with aerial input.

Thumbs up Great idea!

At one time I thought of buying the EyeTV by Elgato for my iMac. But I decided against it because it wasn't quite there in terms of integration, software and everything. As I remember, it required a very powerful processor to decode full bandwidth recorded HDTV. This looks way better.

I wondering this about it. (Help me out, those who may know)
  • Will the PS3 have to be left on for this to work on recording or will it turn on the PS3 itself?
  • If it can receive 2 channels at a time, I wonder if you can record 2 at a time? Or only watch 1 and record 1 at the same time?
  • If it uses a USB connection, does USB have enough bandwidth for 2 HiDef A/V streams simultaneously?
  • Does it have a coaxial connection for a direct connection to an HDTV antenna?
  • Will it use a web-based channel guide (like TitanTV)?

If this thing does what I hope, I can buy it and have a FREE HDTV DVR with no monthly service fee.

1- Yes PS3 must be on, but they could hypothetically create a "turn on" protocol depending on how much it "sleeps" when off.
2- Watch 1, tape 1
3- Broadcast HD is 19.2mbps. USB 2.0 is 480mbps. I'd say it's fine

Check the high-res picture (click the small photo I posted) and you can see the small miniB-USB connector on the PlayTV hardware.

Does the US have a single over the air digital terrestrial broadcasting standard or would different regions need different hardware? Open question to all.

Cool Ps3 Dvr

The only question I have is is there a service fee?

And I believe I know why they are not releasing it in the US yet. They are probably waiting until the big Feb 2009 switch for all the TV Signals. Why add more parts into their new device to make it compliant for both signals.

Just when you thought that it couldn't get any better, or at least not much better, sony pulls another ace out of their sleeve. This might change the way that we view cable TV at home. Watching a recording on the psp sounds great. Will this option be included as a firmware update?
