Like I've said elsewhere, and like many around here, I watch lots of movies. Because of the way life is, I only watch certain kinds of movies on certain kinds of days or nights.
On Friday and Saturday Nights when I am not on call, I like to drink beer (I'm a homebrewer). Friday nights, my wife gets home a couple of hours after me, and I have usually had a few by then. So, fridays are the nights for lame comedies. Pineapple Express is a recent example. You don't have to have all of your mental capacity to enjoy it and follow it. Saturday Nights are a little more moderate, so actioners, thrillers horrors are usually on the bill. If I feel like I can stay awake for a second feature on either Friday or Saturday night, I usually choose a horror or a DVD feature that I think my wife won't like, since she always crashes before me. Sunday Nights outside of NFL season is also a movie night, and because we don't drink on work nights, foreign movies, dramas and romantic comedies are usually the choice, since these types are less "festive" or require more attention. You can't watch a subtitled movie while drinking alcohol and expect to follow it. Weekends when I am on call are like three Sunday Nights in a row, except I don't worry about staying up late. Worknights during the week are usually shorter, since we don't get the birds to bed until after 7:30 and we get up at 5:30 in the morning. Once or twice on weeknights we watch movies, usually something short on DVD, like an indie. My wife often needs to do work at the same time, or I will watch from the treadmill. Indie DVD's often have poor PQ or AQ, and I don't feel like I'm missing out by not having the lights off or not being in the sweet spot. Finally, I rarely watch movies during the day. If I do, it's usually a rewatch. Something I fell asleep on or something difficult to follow and I want to see again (like Revolver, Memento, Sukiyaki Western Django, Southland Tales or similar). Otherwise, it will be something my wife refused to watch, or something I know she would have hated. Today, for instance, I watched Baghead on DVD while riding the stationary bike upstairs. It did not matter that it was a bright sunny day or that we have only TV speakers upstairs. It was in mono audio and not worthy of a HT. So, am I too much of a freak? |
