Default Setting up a PS3 without a controller?

I just got my very first PS3, but the ebay seller I got it from did not include a controller like it was supposed to come with.

I set everything up and turned on the system, and the screen came up telling me to connect my controller via USB

So I have a third party controller that I bought, but it says it only functions as a controller and will not communicate with the ps3, and that seems to be doing nothing.

Does anyone know how I can get past this screen and set up my system?

I'm dying to watch a blu-ray!!

Hey bro!

You don't happen to have Rock Band or anything yet do you? You could probably use the guitar controller to get through the setup.

Do you have any friends with a PS3 so you can borrow theirs?

Buy yourself a Blu-ray remote (or better yet, a Dual Shock 3). Can't really go wrong with either purchase.

Besides, how are you going to navigate the menus on a Blu-ray without a controller or remote?

You might have to break down and buy a sony brand controller. Look for the older non dual shock ones cheap on e-bay. Also complain to the seller and tell him you never got the controller, he might have accidentally forgot to pack it.

Message the seller asking for the controller.
If no reply.

Give him negative reviews, they always seem to magically respond quickly to negative reviews

Did he advertise that there was not controller??? (i.e. the good deal = no controller)

If he didn't, get in touch with PayPal and crucify him.

Thanks for everyone's help and suggestions

I borrowed my friend's controller this morning and set up my system. Now, my 3rd party controller works fine!

Unfortunately, i only had time to watch a few minutes of Kung Fu Panda before i had to go to class. So, 4 more hours until blu-ray-athon 09!

Suggestions for first viewing from my collection?
