Default Fuh Yuan correction statement re: hd-dvd 4/26/07

http://www.fuhyuan.com/ev/action/mai...23&Action=Show

Correction Statement

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We are sorry to correct the statement that we have two million HD-DVD players order from Wal-Mart and manufactured by China Great Wall Group. The actuality is that we had not received yet. We are asked to provide the schedule to Wal-Mart and cost to determine the quantity even more than two million, if the cost is good enough and timing is correct. So the capacity is under consideration. Any qualified manufactured base group will be welcome.

The longer those POS players are delayed, the better for blu. By then, more blockbusters like spiderman trilogy and matrix will be out for blu and BD-J will be finalized then it should spell more doom for HDDVD

So even though this is a deal that is still not confirmed, HD-DUD fanbois are already going out with the positive spin:

From the eproductwars forum:

Mike HD The Pirate of the Format Wars responds on 2007-04-26 12:04:01.0: Well, this seems to spell out that the players in question are HD DVD, not Blu-ray. And, reading "... to determine the quantity even more than two million, if the cost is good enough and timing is correct. So the capacity is under consideration." is highly encouraging for Camp HD DVD - so might be OVER TWO MILLION players. Correct timing, one would assume, would be the Xmas season. Mike HD The Pirate of the Format Wars responds on 2007-04-26 12:18:31.0: "Any qualified manufactured base group will be welcome." Sounds like they are inviting outside manufacturing assistance/facilities to help to nail down projected manufacturing cost and capacity. Re defeat for Blu-ray, I'm sure that everyone can come to their own conclusions. Like figure out how many tens of millions of PS3s would have to sell to match the attach rate of several million HD DVD players. Report inappropriate content

They just don't want it announced just yet.
My half brothers ,uncles, freinds, step sister confirmed that the deal has already been in the Wally World company news letter...so its a done deal....or something....of course I can't back this up...but you can bet its fact.
Sounds like its going to be 3 million or more of them thar players for sure...then all will be right with the world...and I also heard Wally World will sell all hd dvd's for 9.99 or less and through in one of them thar hdtv's with every purchase to boot....its over for BD for sure

These are the kind of comments I expect.

Yea, but I think that if people see big blockbusters like Spiderman are BD exclusive, they will probably pass up the cheaper player so they can see the movies they want.

Ignore it, and concentrate on the Rob Enderle article (ignoring that the article was based on this being true).

It did its job. Another piece of fabricated nonsense is now floating around as fact.

Three months from now you'll have people asking: "Didn't I read that Wal-mart has bought 2 million HD DVD players?"

exactly this stuff is getting old, they are really trying to hang on and use any desperate tactic they can, the facts are out there and this is there hope that wal mart might be getting a bunch of cheap knock off hd dvd players. I find it amusing this is the best they can do. If there was a single bit of truth to it, does anyone think there would not be a big counter act from the Blu-ray team.

Kosty is over at AVMSF claiming "his sources" say it's a done deal. He's confident his sources are "trustworthy". Now get this. He claims the mods know who the sources are. If so the mods should back him up or force him to reveal his sources. This is total BS. I usually just laugh stuff like this off but this is way over the top. You think the mods would let any BD supporter get away with this nonsense. My opinion of AVMSF has sunk even lower. I din't think that was possible.

If this rumor is true. Why wouldn't Fu Yahn, WalMart etc just come out and say so. This isn't national security secrets were talking about. Cheap Chinese players were trumpeted at CES by the HD DVD group. Now it's all "top secret"?

Quite simple logic will us that with 100K units sold in a year, there simply is no massive market for two million HD DVD players, even if they somehow can do it at $299.

The only way it hits $199 is with a massive subsidy. But $200 for a player with only three studio's supporting the format is still an awfully hard sell.

If BD can get some of their major releases out by the end of the year (spiderman complete series, potc complete series, etc. etc.) they'll put HD-DVD out of their misery...

I don't see how BD can lose with the fact that Sony owns some of their biggest movies and MS/Toshiba don't...

Universal could leave at any time...no matter how much they pump HD-DVD....

Sony is the company at stake here....so they will always hold their titles back and keep selling PS3's...

BD has too much leverage to die...while HD-DVD could lose all support if sales keep going the way they are...and they'll likely keep a stronger pace come mid-summer...
