Default New Footage for Blade Runner?? COOL!

Yo, just read at aint-it-cool news that apparently for an upcoming mega-awesome Edition of Blade runner, there are actual NEW (as in very recent) re-shoots of certain scenes in the movie, plus re-mastering and stuff. Obviously us BD fans would jump on that like white on rice if it was released on BD, so what studio owns this puppy? likelihood of BR release if this new ed. is for real????

Tell me this is a joke, right? As if Star Wars being messed wasn't bad enough. Got a link for it?

Here it is:

http://www.darkhorizons.com/news07/070426i.php

It's a Warner movie so it'll likely come out on both BD & HD-DVD, hopefully at the same time but it'll likely street on HD-DVD first.

Actually this could be good, especially if they offer both cuts of the film on one set for everyone.

Warner stated during the Home Theater Forum chat that they will be releasing Blade Runner this year...

I think some people have grabbed the wrong end of the stick on this.

I believe what ol'd Ridley is doing is fixing an "error" in the film, namely that of the badly matched stunt double in the horrible wig running through the panes of glass.

The history behind the original shooting of that scene was that he was under pressure to get it in the can that night, so he was rushed into completing it.

I see nothing wrong with this, as he is not changing the creative context by dropping in new characters, merely fixing the equivalent of a technical glitch.

And in the new box sets, you'll always have the old untouched versions to go back to as well.

after re-reading the "star wars" posts, I realized apprehension on CHANGING Blade Runner (replicant shot first?) - but the changes (from what i've read) dealt w/ MAINTAINING continuity.

Exactly! Nothing wrong with that, and I for cannot wait to see Ridley's new version - and unlike Lucas, Ridley is also making sure the older versions stay in circulcation too.

^^^ Are both the old versions going to be part of the release?

Some people actually like the voice-over.

If that's what it is then I have no problem with it. It's just that after star wars and then the trek "restoration" I can see other film makers being tempted to tweak things too much. If they do add multiple versions to the same disc then I'm all for it, but I can also see Hollywood being tempted to just release multiple SKUs to milk a franchise for what it's worth.

I'll check with a friend of mine who knows some peeps over at RSA. I believe it was going to include the original 1982 version, the 1991 rerelease and the new cut. But sadly, not the workprint version (as I believe there are such things as copyright issues with that because of the temp track - which uses music from Planet of the Apes)... however, if there is ever a 70mm revival screening, it has more often than not been the old workprint, which is always a treat... at least that's what happens here in L.A.
