I have a small room, maybe a little Medium. I am trying to decide if I should buy a HDTV that is 32' or larger. A 42' is the largest I will go but might be to big for my room. I need a decent size with a decent brand and resolution at a decent price. Which do you think would be the best size for my room?

what are your room measurements..??
i have a 10 by 11 foot room and im gonna get a 46 inch tv. i recommend a 58 inch or larger no matter what size your room.. haha also depends on your viewing distance, if it is 7 feet back just get the 42 inch! |

No matter the size of the room, I would go no less than 50" in size... or a projector so that it could be adjusted to any future room dimensions without worrying about having purchased a smaller TV in the past, should you try to move it.

the size of the room is not to be considered. The viewing distance determines the recommended size of the screen.
http://www.crutchfield.com/learn/lea...placement.html Screen Viewing distance range 26" 3.25-5.5 feet 32" 4.0-6.66 feet 37" 4.63-7.71 feet 40" 5.0-8.33 feet 46" 5.75-9.5 feet 52" 6.5-10.8 feet 58" 7.25-12 feet 65" 8.13-13.5 feet 70" 8.75-14.75 feet |

I got my 52" originally for a room that measured about 10' x 13' and it was only a matter of days before I was saying, "I should have went bigger." And now that I have a living room where it's mounted on a wall, I'm definitely regretting not going with bigger or a projector!!! ![]() |

The simple answer is: As big as you can afford
Seriously, you'll always regret not going bigger after you've had your set awhile. We've got a 42" set in the bedroom, and the size is just right. Our 42" set in the living room needs to be at least 50". So far, our 58" set has not "shrunk" yet, but over time it will.... |

I would recommend a 42" as the "sweet spot" for 1080p LCD TV's.

It's weird, I bought a 46XBR6 to replace a 40XBR1 and when I watched it, the difference in size didn't really wow me like I thought it would so I retured it for a 52XBR6 which is on the way. Yet now that I'm relegated to the 40XBR1 again, it doesn't seem small in comparison or anything, even though I'm sitting further away from it now than I used to.
Anyway, I would say go for the biggest you can afford. If I could afford the 60" Kuro I would have gone for it, or the 70" XBR7 if I had more money than sense. 52" was pretty much the biggest I could afford without going projection which I don't want to do right now. Some might say it depends on your viewing distance. You should sit 1.5 times from the size of the screen. So if you sit 60 inches from where the TV will be mounted, you should get a 40" TV.
Like others who have replied, I recommend purchasing the largest TV that works within your budget and fits in your space. You could always move the seats back. ![]() |

I drop the idea of getting a 32' to my family (which is the size in the living room, but I want bigger.) They think I am nuts. They think a 32' HDTV for a living room is big and question why I would want a bigger HDTV for a smaller room.
I am buying all my expensive stuff now (HTDV,Wii,PS3,DVD Recorder) Because am starting to collect Blu-Ray and DVDs and I will eventually have a decent collection (Right now I just have 2 blu-rays and 15 DVDs) but I want to play games with my ps3 and wii and watch movies because when I move out, I won't get cable and I need some movies and games to entertain myself with. So buying the right size is important. Today I spotted a 42' Phillips HDTV which caught my eye. After listening to you guys... I am shooting between 42' and 56' even the larger I go the more small my room will look. |
