Default South Park finally goes HD in season 13

http://www.engadgethd.com/2009/01/20...-in-season-13/

Hold on to your hats, kids -- South Park is making its long awaited high-def debut in just under two months. Starting on March 11th with the season 13 premier, every successive episode of the famed cartoon will be in glorious high-definition. Furthermore, the crew has been toiling around the clock in order to re-render previous episodes in native HD (presumably for Blu-ray releases), so don't be shocked to see episodes from years past show up on Comedy Central HD a bit clearer than you remember. And here you were thinking the show was teetering on the edge of irrelevance.

did a search..hope its not a repost

I looove SP. I think it has actually gotten even better with age but I have to wonder: Just how much will a show essentially made with construction paper benefit from HD?

I could be wrong. After all, after watching Sleeping Beauty on BD,I was wondering how much traditional animation would benefit from an HD transfer, I was shocked. It was like watching it for the first time but then again...

Please understand I'm not ragging on the show. It's mearly a technical question.

I'll bet the CG parts of the World of Warcraft episode would look awsome. lol

I've fallen behind with my South Park (and Simpsons) DVD collections, I still need Seasons 11 & 12! Thank blu-ray for that! ! pretty much gave up on buying DVDs. Soooo, it's good to hear that they are making the change for season 13! Thanks, OP.

Yeah, same here. I have Comcast.

I did find about half a dozen episodes on In Demand in the HD section though, and they were beautiful! You might want to check and see if you have any available to you.

I'm totally sold on the image quality and ready for the Blus. The detail and texture on the CG "cardboard cutouts" is pretty amazing.

if you haven't seen the HD episode "Good Times with Weapons" on xbox live, you probably won't understand how good it can look. i was skeptical at first but was amazed at the clarity after i watched the episode (i think its either in 1080i or 720p too). if you have access to xbox live i suggest you watch it!

i can't wait until this is released on blu-ray! my cable service provider is cox and we don't have comedy central yet :[

it hasnt been made on construction paper since season 2 I believe, it is done all on computers using the same programs that created the FInal Fantasy films....so i think itll benefit just fine

It's animated by computer, but the textures and designs are still the construction paper design.

I wonder what this means for the pilot though, because that one was animated with cutouts by hand. Think they got that on film? It'd be a shame to see them able to re-render in HD, but leave the first episode looking dull in comparison.
