Default Narnia & Wall•E New 3-Disc cases...No slip-cover

So I was at Best Buy yesterday and the Prince Caspian Blu-ray caught my eye. I noticed a discrepancy in the color of the inserts and realized it was because one was the 2-disc case and the other was the 3-disc case. The Wall•E cases were the same way as well.

The 3-disc cases were originally thicker and came with a slipcover. The case is now a thin case (like speed racer 3-disc) but without the slipcover. It was interesting because Disney usually uses the indented logo cases and these new ones seem to be the elite style ones.

I would have preferred to get my 3-disc in these thinner cases (saves space) if they would have included the slipcover. It makes me wonder if any future 3-disc release will now have the thinner cases with a slipcover. I included some pictures in case anyone cares.

That's like the new Blade Runner Case! It's smaller too!

Same here. Perhaps Amazon still has the Wall-E slipcover edition... which never went on any substantial sale.

I have never understood this obsession with the minute details about blu ray cases. It's a case. It protects and stores the disc. Who cares if a case is 2 mm wider, or how the logo is stamped on, or if there is a slipcase, or if they are slimcases, or if there are 3 movies in 1 case????

The only 2 case things that bug me are:
1) megaboxes (ie Casablanca) only because they are trying to force me to buy junk I don't want (luggage tag???) at a big premium.

2) Cases that don't offer decent protection to the disc (ie: Baraka).

Other then that, why would any of this matter? Blu-Ray cases look kindof ugly anyways.

Do people REALLY decorate with BD cases?

That's you! Everyone is not going to be like you in the sense of how they feel about things!

Do you put your discs into one of those binders and get rid of the case?

Nope. The case PROTECTS the disc, and itentifies the content of the case. Cases offer better protection then those binders. But the cases are stored in a cabinet and behind a door. They don't go with the decor...

Dude! It's a case. A 2mm thickness difference in a case.

Funny thing, I used to think of myself as OCD before I found this place.

It's just that all of my Pixar and Disney Blu-rays have slipcovers, and are on their separate shelf.

Well, Amazon has just today discounted the 3-Disc, and I've preordered it. Who knows if it'll be the slipcover version or not... But I do need the slipcover for it to fit with the rest of my collection.

It's not anything I'm proud of, but I do like to have my collection look consistent.

the thing that bugs me are how the corners along the spines break off. wth is up with that!??!

also my firefly bottom hook was already broken when received it, so it doesn't completely lock when you close it. would anyone here go through the trouble of returns just for these minor defects? i didn't, but now i'm bummed everytime i see these cases. grrrr....

the only thing I appreciate about slipcovers is how they deflect the damage from my kids from the actual case itself.. it gets all the shelfwear, the drops, and other wear and tear, and the case stays nice.. the condition of my Toy Story DVDs case is unreal, but the Incredibles and Cars are very nice inside..

I also like a bit of uniformity to my shelves, so they're just arranged together on the same shelf.. but as far as I'm concerned, once the kids are old, the slipcases can go in the cardboard recycle bin

I can see the difference, sort of. But is one case the original BD case, where it doesn't really have a spine when you open it? Like where the top doesn't show the spine. Most of the newer cases that I've seen have a spine when you open the case. I actually prefer the newer ones. I like them better. ^_^

Here are the images just so what I said makes sense.

Original (Indented logo):

New case (Elite):

As for the slipcovers - I don't like them. For BD's cases. The logo that's a platinum silver on my Pirates 3's case is almost scratched off because of the slipcover for it. It annoys me, because I'm a perfectionist. It's a gift and curse.

Anyone got Narnia from Amazon recently? Does it still come with the slipcover?

The thick cases were a lot more durable, than the thin 3-disc cases that Warner uses.
