Default Help Pluging PS3 HD Cable to HDTV

I got my PS3 yesterday, A 80GB. I bought a couple blue ray movies before I got the player. Right now till I get the HDTV of my own I am going to use the HDTV we have in the living room. I hooked up the HDMI Cable to the PS3 to the back of the HDTV but all I can hear is sound? Did I do something wrong?

That should be it. Try another Hdmi cable. I had a problem with my ps3, it didnt work when i used psyclone cables, but it did work when I used the cheap cable that came with my Directv box and monster cables.

You may have to go into the PS3's menu system to make sure it's all set up right. I know the PS3's menu system has options for outputing video via HDMI so I'd start there. Unfortunately, I'm not at home so I can't tell you exactly which menus to look in.

Do you have the cable that came with the PS3 connected (audio, video, or both)? unplug it and toss it aside.

Are both ends of the cable firmly plugged in?

Does your TV have more than one hdmi input? Make sure your TV input is set to the correct hdmi input.

If you still can't see anything, turn the PS3 off. Now turn it on again, but hold the power button for 5 seconds (until it beeps again). Should reset the video output settings along with everything else and sync with your TV.

If you still can't see anything, you've got me confused..

This would be rather hard to do when you can't see anything..

Would require screenshots of the menu structure and counting ticks from a starting point in the menu. Definitely not necessary.. hehe

You could, yes.. technically you can have both cables plugged in at the same time and choose between them in the menu provided that you can get a visual from one or the other by changing inputs on your TV to whatever the PS3 decided to use.

The 5s reset of the PS3 with just the HDMI cable in should work though.

The newer firmware level on the ps3,,will actually detect the hdmi cabl and ask if you want to switch to it and then run the auto video mode selector (720pm, 1080i,1080p..etc).

Hook up your regular basic cables to see if you can see video and everything. When done shut down, unplug the cables from the ps3 and plug the hdmi cable back in. It should prompt you if you want to use the hdmi cable and then it shoudl auto configure.

I believe you you are running the wrong resolution you may not see video. I also had an issue before where i had my PS3 force to do 24Hz, and when i connected it via hdmi to my sisters TV that didn't do 24HZ,,i got not picture just sound.

So if you hook up the basic cables ensure the reoslution is set to something the TV supports and 24Hz is not forced on.

I got it working. I just rebooted the PS3 and the system found the HDMI Cables.
I have been watching Sleeping Beauty and it looks great. Then I saw Smallville and it looks better than DVD but they crammed 7 episodes on 1 Discs makes it look grainy. Anyway Blu-Ray Rules. I just biught some more Blu-Ray Movies.
