Default Cannibal Holocaust

Anybody seen this film? I watched it on Google (entire film is, I believe, divided into two segments) as I've heard so much about it.

What can I say, I abhor every second as it utterly disgusted me and still I find myself thinking about certain scenes that left a mark in that realm of the mind that's reserved only for the most disturbing (Oldboy's tongue scene, for example). Did it achieve its goal? Was it well made? I think so. But that doesn't mean I have to like it. The subject matter includes abortion, gang rape, killings and torture, execution, and everything else that makes your stomach churn. Also, some number of animals are actually killed in front of the camera (they chop two monkeys skulls in half, cut a turtles head off and show his guts as they take the shell off the body, cut up a tarantula, and kill a muskrat-thing). I can take quite a bit from movies, but this movie pushed the envelope. Easily the nastiest film I've ever seen.

Have you seen it? What was your reaction? What are other films that church your stomach (Last House on the Left is a close second, I've heard)?

I can handle quite a bit in a film - when I know it isn't real. Not sure why anyone would want to see this garbage - much less come into a forum like this and describe what they saw in detail.

Haven't seen it, don't want to see it. Problem with a lot of old school cannibal movies, in particular the foreign ones is that they are totally sleazy and go for nothing but shock value. And unfortunately, they use real animal torture clips and I want nothing to do with that.

For info/trivia on the film, click here. Also, a sort of sequel is in development.

Cannibal Holocaust is indeed pretty nasty. If you've developed a taste for testing your movie endurance try Salo -100 Days of Sodom.

I had heard a lot about this film but only picked it up when I saw that the DVD (I assume a recent release) had a version without the animal torture. I have no desire to see innocent animals killed.

one of the all-time great explotation films, saw it about 5-6yrs ago, and although tame by today's standards, I could see why so many countries banned this in the early 1980's

I've had my pet turtle since I was 7 (I'm now 27). I don't think I would handle the turtle scene well.

I'm a huge fan of sick, twisted & disturbing films, but honestly Cannibal Holocaust just seemed kind of stupid (and very racist) to me. There are much better and more artistic films out there in this genre. For examples, check out Nekromantik 1 and 2, Blood Sucking Freaks, The Sinful Dwarf, The Beyond (uncut), or Der Todesking, to name a few. If you like watching people having sex with dead bodies and bathing with mutilated bloody animals then I especially recommend the Nekromantik series. If you're looking for real human and animal death, see Traces of Death 2.

This film is GARBAGE! I am a VEGAN (have been for 3 years now). I saw this "film" about 10 years ago when I was 21 years old. It is what initially got me thinking about animal rights. I will NEVER, and I mean NEVER forget what I saw. I have watched interviews with the director where he says he doesn't understand what the big deal is. He described how when he was a kid they would take a litter of kittens and put them in a sack and throw them in the river. So theres obviously something missing there. I hate that I contributed to this guys income by buying this junk. I still have the DVD and will never watch it again.

that scene in particular is forever imbedded in my brain. just senseless abuse of an innocent creature living in the wild.

To me there should be fine lines of what should be filmed and what shouldn't. This film smells Eli Roth remake all over it.

Same here, especially the few days after the initial viewing.

Most of the scenes with the animals did not depict any animals being tortured. The turtle was decapitated first, the tarantula was chopped up, the muskrat was stabbed (though it did appear to be in pain), and the monkeys were cut on top of the head as to provide access to the brain.

The scene with the turtle was the worst because it was the biggest animal. Also, it dragged for about 5 minutes and showed us everything for the sake of "shock value".

Wouldn't recommend purchasing, but watch it on Google simply for the sake of seeing this "classic".

http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...67795876917425

I saw it simply because it was usually #1 on "most disgusting movie" lists in the IMDb message boards. As a fan of "gross", I was intrigued. Of course, nothing I saw really came close to this kind of film.

The IMDb trivia has some interesting facts. Apparently the female actress wanted to have actual intercourse in her sex scene with one of the co-stars and the guy wouldn't do it. Everything about this movie, including the behind-the-scenes stuff, is bizarre.

Wow, that means this movie actually contributed to the animal rights movement. How ironic. I've been a dedicated vegan for 20 years now, but I still love sick films, although not this one.

Yes, he is a big fan of this film. I'm pretty sure he IS working on a remake.

This is simply something you can't re-do. And if you can, it's gonna take someone a hell of a lot better than Eli Roth.
