I was thinking the exact same thing. What some don't realize is most consumers don't see Toshiba as a Tier One CE. When they go into the stores they look for Sony, Samsung, Panasonic, and Pioneer? And guess what product all of those companies make?

Especially after all the threads that are all over the net with problems that their HD-DVD players have (even on G2), I won't go near a Toshiba product.

By Xmas, Toshiba will be probably giving away an HD DVD player with many of their HDTV sets.

I expect Sony and Samsung to do something similar, but the eligible models will tend toward the more expensive.

Independently retailers might do the same thing. In a recent forum post from a UK member indicated that they got a Samsung HDTV with a free E2 HD DVD player.

The BDA should discourage that.

I actually do have a Toshiba Regza LCD. It's pretty good ... but still only mid-range. Nothing compared to the Sony. I'd go for the Sharp Aquos range if going mid-range at the moment though.
