A bill to delay the February 17 switch from analog to digital TV failed in the House.

Probably won't be the end of it....

The bill got defeated in the House. Needed a 2/3rds majority to get passes only got 258 to 168.

I don't think this is the end of the effort to push this back. Obama and the senate dems are in favor of pushing it back, so I think there will be more efforts.

Well, as long as they are dealing with the most pressing issue facing the country.

There was plenty of time for the nation to be ready.

I recieved the coupon card in Jul, pick up the converter box in Sep. (I really don't need one, boths TV's are plugged to DirecTV). Just got one as a backup. I plan to give it away to an elderly couple that's using rabbit ears this Saturday.

I can understand where some people will have a problem with this. There will probably be someone somewhere who isn't paying attention and will not understand why their TV no longer "works". I can imagine it is mostly older people and low income people. I feel kind of sorry for them now that they won't be getting assistance to purchase the converter, which probably should have been given away for free and in the long run would have saved some money. Now PBS is claiming the delay is going to cost them $20 million to keep broadcasting. (which is kind of odd because I think my local PBS station stopped the analog broadcast over a month ago).

No. Political move. New Prez and Senate can say they tried. Vulnerable democrats, if there are any, in the house can also say they tried, while the House as a whole did what was right. Either that, or some House members did not get a big enough piece of pork butt.

Ah, a job for me... advertise that I can fix their tv's for a "small fee" so that they can receive their free OTA broadcasts. (insert evil laugh here)$50 for a converter box and $25 for a hookup charge. Do 10 a day and I'm set.

Actually, some folks would probably be glad for the help...

Its because the Dems are concerned that most people didn't have the foresite to get a new tv or a converter box and are now out of jobs. I could care less I have DirectTV anyways.
