Canton Speakers Any One?

Hi any one owns this speakers I was this afternoon at my local speaker dealer listening to some PSB speakers and the sales guy show me some CANTON speakers the Ergo and the GLE series I like the way they sound any opinions.He offer me the GLE 409 for $900 is this a good deal? also I'm looking at the KEF IQ9 wich shut be a better buy?

we can get a good idea of what speakers sound like at the showroom, let your ears decide for you. Unless budget is also a big determining factor. It would be best to bring them home but in reality that may not be possible.

I would take some Canton speakers any day, the GLE 490 has a better frequency response thanks to the dual 8" woofers. Which is why based on specs alone I would take them over the KEF iQ90, but that's me though. It comes down to personal preference.

The Canton Ergo series is better looking and should have better performance than the GLE series, but would cost be an issue ???

Sorry, I can't tell you if the price for the GLE 490's is fair or not............. maybe call and get the MSRP and compare. Does this retailer sell both brands ???

The dealer is Audio Vision located in Houston they only sell PSB and CANTON the msrp on the 490 is $1399 and I can get the 409 for $900 so would you recomend to wait for the 490 and pay the extra money?

Seems more than fair to me. Have you had a chance to listen to them ??? Since the 490's have dual 8" woofer and a nice big ole 7" midrange. I would imagine there is a very full sound to them.

If you were to pick up the GLE 455 center channel and a pair of GLE 430's for surrounds, I would say that would be a great sounding setup. Whatever makes you happiest is what you should go with though !!!

yes I listen the 409 and I like the soud they produce but I think I would wait for the 490 and compare them.One more question what is the impedance of this speakers 4 or 8 ohms?

The website doesn't show a 409, only a 410. Here are the specs for the 490.

I just thought you meant 490 and not 409 ??? Is the 409 an older model ???

yes the GLE 409 is last year model I call my sales guy this morning and he told me the 409 and 490 is the same the only difference the 490 is 2009 model I will call CANTON Monday and ask,did you listen or own any CANTON speakers? I can't acces the web site because is block by my employer.

I only had the pleasure of hearing a pair of Canton's this past summer, but it was an expensive pair and I was there for another brand. I liked what I heard but I can't imagine the ones you are looking at sound bad or lacking. Canton is a German company makes great speakers.

If the 409's and 490's are the same, do they look the same ??? If so, it would be a good way to save some dough and get a nice pair of full range speakers !!!

I have to admit, I am biased in favor of full range tower speakers. Just no way of getting glorious sound out of a small box. If I had to live in a 6' x 6' room for the rest of my life, I would still take a great big ole pair of towers .


The best advice I or anyone could give you though is; do what is best for and only you !!!

They are one of my favorite brands as virtually every line and model sound clean and flat. I have the Ergo towers with dual 9" drivers and the matching center with dual 7" drivers. I would not worry about a deal of last years model if you find a good deal on them. You will definately love the sound!

Canton speakers sound very close and while there are differences between speaker lines it is not that much of a difference compared to most other companies that might have a few great speakers then the rest are just so so.

I think they charge nothing for delivery if you are ok with business delivery which takes ten days.
