Default Amazon Price Creep on Pre-Order Titles?

Anyone else notice that Amazon has been having slightly higher prices on pre-order titles?

I have found usual new pre-order titles at under $25 and now they are typically $27.99 or higher. Even with their pre-order price guarantee, they only drop $1-$2 to match other vendors.

With the elimination of their post-price guarantee, it seems pointless to pre-order less than "must have" titles.

I have found myself recently canceling these Amazon pre-orders, knowing full well that within the first month, they will drop dramatically.

Anyone else cancel their pre-orders for this reason?

I completely agree with you. Normally if we hold off for two weeks the price drops a few (4 to 5) dollars.

I haven't bought from "Amazon" for at least 6 months, maybe more at this point.

Thier prices have been high for quite a while and now thier getting higher. I usually buy at other on-line retailers depending on the sales going on. I also buy from Amazon third party sellers. Usually about 2-3 weeks after release you can get titles for at or under $20 shipped from reputable third party sellers on Amazon. I'm not one of the freaks that absolutely must have every movie at thier door step on release day. I can wait a few weeks in order to pay a reasonable price. Plus since I still buy a tone of movies I still get at least one new movie every week, makes no matter to me that it was released a few weeks ago.

I agree, Amazon just isn't as competitive with the B&M stores as they used to be. I find myself buying at Best Buy more. I usually only buy on Amazon now if it's something that Best Buy won't carry or if there's a real sale.

I'm confused as to why this site put this thread in the "Off Topic Discussion."

My original post was in the "Hot Deals Forum." Your moderator moved it here.

It dealt specifically with why Amazon was not giving us any hot deals on pre-order items especially since they discontinued their 30-day post price matching policy.

Compare this thread to others--Super Bowl, Verizon, cable vs. satellite, etc. and you'll see that it's just not in the same category.

The forum posting guidelines for a Hot Deal are:

"A Hot Deal is defined as: A LEGITIMATE sale that anyone and everyone can take advantage of at a website or retail store."

Based upon that parameter, your post doesn't really qualify as a hot deal, hence the mods moved it.

Like I have said before, Amazon is losing its pricing edge that it once had.
