Stephen King: Not a Fan of "Twilight" - Blu-ray Forum

He says, "Both Rowling and Meyer, they’re speaking directly to young people... The real difference is that Jo Rowling is a terrific writer and Stephenie Meyer can’t write worth a darn. She’s not very good.

"It’s very clear that she’s writing to a whole generation of girls and opening up kind of a safe joining of love and sex in those books. It’s exciting and it’s thrilling and it’s not particularly threatening because it’s not overtly sexual.

"A lot of the physical side of it is conveyed in things like the vampire will touch her forearm or run a hand over skin, and she just flushes all hot and cold. And for girls, that’s a shorthand for all the feelings that they’re not ready to deal with yet."

*cough* pot calling the kettle black. Stephen King writes like he is writing a movie script these days. Most of his books have gone downhill very badly since the days of The Stand and It.

I am neither bashing nor praising Stephanie Meyer for her books, for I have not read them, nor do I plan to. However, from what I've heard from a lot of friends who have read them, I heard that Meyer's writing style is compared to that of a third graders. That being said, even if this is true, she is still making boatloads of money. I think that some authors are just threatened because they have run out of good ideas.

Stephen King is an experienced writer so I'll take his word for it. From a practical point of view it does not change anything for me since I never planned to read Twilight anyways.

She wasn't in a drugged out haze while writing them so they're not comparable to Stephen King's books?

I mean, at least SHE can remember writing them King.

He can see the future...

He knows that when Twilight comes out on DVD/Blu-Ray that it'll affect the sales of Pet Sematary 2.

WOW....im in the middle of reading Breaking Dawn and im amazed by how good she writes. Granet she does write alot of info but its REALLY good. I've never read a Stephen King book but always wanted to. I've read the Potter books and THEY are to kids and young adults. The Twilight books are for EVERYONE. Not just to teenagers or young adults. I know MANY people who read them young and old. But whatever. I really love these books.

Everyone probably isn't true. Every girl and any guy who can get over themselves enough to give it a chance and that enjoy romance, probably.

Despite that I don't think it's a must-read. Just good.
