Default Question on Streaming Blu-rays ?

I just heard that Direct TV will be have PPV movies now that are Blu-ray audio quality and picture quality. I also know that Netflix now Streams BLU-ray quality movies.

Why in the hell am I buying blu-rays ?????? If I can stream from Netflix and get the same quality picture and sound, I am going to stop buying Blu rays.

I have over 80 Blu's at an average price of 18.00 that's $1440.00.

Can you save the streamed movies to a external hard drive ? If so that would seal the deal for me for sure !!!

i dont think thats true... they are probably streaming HD butb not blu-ray... i would think you would need a fairly amazing internet connection to stream blu-ray quality picture AND audio...

Apparently Direct Tv is going to or already is offering 1080p PPV movies. But we don't know at what bit rate. Haven't heard anything about audio yet.

your probably right, I just this quote from an article in the washington time Jan.23rd paper

"Streaming all of that information -- the high-definition picture, the special features, six-channel surround sound -- is no mean feat. It can't be done at less than seven megabytes per second, and could take as many as 10 megabytes per second. Simply put, the infrastructure isn't there to support HD streaming right now, according to Ted Ritter, a senior research analyst at Nemertes Research. "

I thought I read in the latest home theater magazine that Netflix was streaming Blu-Ray, I'll have to check that.

DTV will be offering PPV movies in 1080P with Dolby Digital Audio. There will be no lossless audio like you can find on many blu-rays. Also the video quality of the DTV PPV.... even though it is 1080P..... probably will not be quite a pristene as blu-ray quality since it will undoubtedly use more compression.

Netflix offers streaming of movies in HD. Not 1080P HD... and definitely not Blu-Ray quality.

I love blu-ray because currently it is the SINGLE best medium to get the best picture and audio quality available for in home viewing.... but everything I want to watch isn't available on blu-ray... so I also take advantage of satellite tv, DVD, digital downloads and Netflix streaming.
