USA Sum of All Fears Thoughts and Blu-ray Discussion

I enjoy this movie as well as most of the other Tom Clancy movies (Hunt for Red October, Clear and Present Danger etc.) I notice that there is not a review on this site about the movie. For those who own this movie what do you think of the PQ and AQ?

Terrible movie IMO, but as far as the quality:

It was a creative concept meaning the original story from the novel, but it just wasn't executed well at all IMO, but a decent presentation from the Blu-ray as reported.

Okay thanks. I like it, but not near as much as Clear and Present Danger or Hunt for Red October!

I like the movie and *love* the score (even bought the soundtrack). I thought the quality of the blu-ray was acceptable but I wouldn't consider it a demo disc.

For me, this movie was simply aweful because it didn't even try to follow the book. I realize capturing everything from a Clancy novel would be impossible, but at least stay true to the story line.

I do not remember the soundtrack. I read on the link above that the AQ was pretty good on the movie.

All Tom Clancy movies lack the scope of the books unfortunatly. You just can't put that much story into a 2 hours movie. The only one that was close was Patriot Games but that is also one of his smaller novels.

I rank them this way :

1. Hunt For Red October
2. Patriot Games
3. Clear & Present Danger
4. Sum Of All Fear

Sum is just the worst of them all. Too many changes from the book. One of the best novels from Clancy turn into the worst movie.

I wish they could make a mini series out of Red Storm Rising, done in the same quality as band Of Brothers.

I liked this movie. In terms of the quality, it was what it was meant to be. It didn't jump out of the screen like Wall-E, but it wasn't meant to. It still was sharp, clean, and the best format available.

That would be cool. Unfortunately in today's envirinment, that kind of project would be deemed too politically incorrect (mustn't offend the Ruskies). Great novel, though.

I actually really enjoyed Sum of All Fears, but I keep hearing that the PQ is just awful so I never got it.

I thought it was terrible. I am not a big Ben fan...not at all. This one is at the bottom of the Jack Ryan flicks.

As for the movie, I love SUM OF ALL FEARS.

As for the BD, hands down one of the worst video transfers you'll ever see!! Picture is too dark and full of video noise (I did not say grain, but genuine video noise). Looks like the DNR the heck out of it and then tried to replace it with artificial sharpening, therefore the picture quality is really bad.

As for the audio, I found it a tad disappointing. While the ear candy scenes are quite impressive, still this is a poor mix cause dialogue wasn't consistent and the score was so far back in the mix, it's hard to make out, particularily the female vocal solist.

It wasn't executed well exactly because it cast aside the original story. The Clancy novel was about middle eastern terrorists. The movie was watered down and politically corrected to avoid casting muslims as terrorists. That had nothing to do with creativity and everything to do with hollywood's aversion to basic facts in the world.
