Default Planet Earth really 2-discs set?

I just noticed all 4 Planet Earth discs are single layer. Why didn't BBC Video use 2 double layer discs instead?

I'm willing to bet on price and availability of the BD50 disc and replication time.

Its so the not-so-savvy consumers out there don't feel ripped off when paying the same money for half the number of discs.

Warner is putting everything on the 25gb discs instead of 50 (which they do for most of their movies for the HD (Toshiba) dvds. They are doing this for the simple factor -it's cheaper. But they are shelling out the dough when putting it on HD-this is why a lot of Blu-ray users are very upset because on the blu-ray dvds that Warner puts out they are skimping on the audio but when it comes to putting out the same title for HD they are forking out the money for all the extra space the movies need for the High Quality 5 ***** Sound they are giving them.

Hopefully they will come to their senses soon as a lot of Blu-Ray customers are saying they won't buy any more Warner Blu-Ray dvds until Warner starts putting out the same quality for Blu-Ray that they are putting out for HD.

I think it's what Josh said. The price difference between a BD25 and a BD50 is about a US$ quarter. If BD25 costs US$1.25 and BD50 costs US$1.75, replicating 4 BD25s actually costs more than replicating 2 BD50s - BD25 US$5, BD50 US$3.50.

There is also the matter of schedule. The BD50 replication line are in high demand and will still be in high demand until more replicators upgrade their BD lines.
